Free education is common sense So how you going to pay for the books, computers, professors, buildings, and supplies? The state? Cool. Wonder where they'll get the money from... "Paying taxes is surely everyone's least favorite government-related activity. But taxing citizens is one of the concurrent powers of government. Federal, state, and local levels all have the power to tax. Of course, people expect state and local governments to provide services such as police protection, education, highway building and maintenance, welfare programs, and hospital and health care. Taxes are a major source of income to pay for these services..." Nah. Why waste any more space and brain cells on this debate .... Side: I AIN'T no socialist

Look.. You're from Bumfuck, Ok where NOBODY finishes the 10th grade. You're quick to tell us that THOSE people make more money than the educated ones.. So, clearly, you think DUMB is better than SMART.. DUDE! excon Side: I'm with Bernie

It winds up with everyone being equally qualified for the same jobs and then not being able to get a job in their field due to so many people having the same degree. It also winds up costing some people retirement money because if they had known they wouldn't all be able to get that tech job, they'd have worked in the plant for $25 an hour and have 4-5 years worth of 401k money already and bd 4-5 years closer to retirement. Now they are 5 years behind. Oh well. At least it made libs feel libby regardless of the results. Side: I AIN'T no socialist
It winds up with everyone being equally qualified for the same jobs and then not being able to get a job in their field due to so many people having the same degree. I hate to agree with you but there is some truth to that. On the other hand, nobody who is truly educated would surmise that the purpose of knowledge is to "get a job". The pursuit of knowledge is largely its own reward. And, as I pointed out in another thread, its own burden. Side: I AIN'T no socialist

Well of course this is ridiculous on its face. Even if what you claim is even partially true. many will be equally educated or given the chance to be but most certainly do not come out...equally qualified. All of your numbers are equally and obviously irrelevant. Side: I'm with Bernie

Even if what you claim is even partially true. many will be equally educated or given the chance to be but most certainly do not come out...equally qualified. Cool. So everyone that's less qualified in a flooded job market has a degree that's worth dick. That accomplished a hell of a lot. Oh well. Let em go to college for another 5 years for free, and hope you don't get the exact same outcome. Still not qualified enough? Hey look. They wasted a decade, have 10 years less retirement, but thank God for those two worthless free degrees... Ah screw it. Send em to free college for another 5 years... Side: I AIN'T no socialist

Hello bront: So, if college were free, you think EVERYBODY will go, do well, and receive a degree??? Really??? DUDE!!! Frankly, if college were free, NOBODY in Bumfuk would leave the farm to go, cause you don't need no edjamacation to run a hay baler.. excon Side: I'm with Bernie

So, if college were free, you think EVERYBODY will go, do well, and receive a degree?? No, but it would be way more. And since suddenly way more people could get a doctor's degree, wages would plummit because smart Americans and foreign genius doctors don't tend to work for peanuts, and until and if it corrected itself, only dumbasses would be doctors for a while. You'll be Millhouse's first heart surgery. Sound nice? Also, since college is free, who's gonna pay for all of those pretty buildings on campus, the state? You mean us... Socialized means I'll steal the funds to pay for it from you by raping you on taxes, then tell you it's free. Frankly, if college were free, NOBODY in Bumfuk would leave the farm to go, cause you don't need no edjamacation to run a hay baler.. I know a lot of college educated people wondering why blue collar folks make more than them and have big trucks. Side: I AIN'T no socialist
Information is increasingly free. Many college courses are recorded and given freely to the public, including Ivy League courses. Given modern conditions, I think the whole institution of higher ed is on the brink of some important shifts that Washington policy makers don’t foresee. We don’t need tax payers paying universities millions for our kids to have a nice looking piece of paper. We need a reliable means of crediting quality independent self-education. Then higher ed really will be basically free and universities will shrink way way down to cover only those hands on skills that will still require them. Side: I'm with Bernie
If the government were to pay for an equal amount of education for everyone, the only thing that would happen would be that everybody would be equally qualified - which would mean that nobody would do particularly well in their field of work (or they would just have to spend extra time in education to do well). If you paid for everyone to have say a bachelor's degree - having a bachelor's degree wouldn't mean anything. It'd be viewed in the same way as finishing high school. Because of that, people would end up having to get a master's or doctorate to get a job (and that would just be the average person). All that would happen is that people would either spend more time in education, or just not be able to find a job very easily. Side: I AIN'T no socialist
If the government were to pay for an equal amount of education for everyone, the only thing that would happen would be that everybody would be equally qualified - Hello e: Nahhh... I went to a high school where everybody received the very same FREE education.. Yet, when it was all over, we were FAR from equally qualified.. Truly. Some people diddled when the education was handed out... Some were too stupid.. Some ditched school.. And, some LIKED being ignorant.. (We got some of those right here) excon Side: I'm with Bernie
