Nowadays, there are plethora examples of making experiments on animals, however, personally, I don't agree with such situation and I think that testing medicines, drugs on animals is not necessary today.

First and foremost, animals are not the same as people, i mean that they may have completely another reaction to medicines than people, sometimes animals do not suffer from all human diseases, so scientists have to give them the illnesses artificially. Consequently, we get unreliable results. For example, aspirin damages pregnant mice and dogs, but not pregnant women. Arsenic, which is a deadly poison for humans, has no effect on sheep, while penicillin, which is so valuable to humans, kills guinea pigs. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), most of the vaccines (HIV/AIDS) which passed the animal tests, actually failed in trials that were conducted on human beings. Medicines tested on animals cannot be considered safe for human use, therefore, it is not correct to rely on results of tests conducted on animals.

Secondly, using animals in experiments is unethical and immoral, because it is widespread that scientists and doctors do not care how they hurt animals and doing tests without using painkillers, because they do not consider them appropriate. The British Union against Vivisection claims that 75% of animals experimented on are given no anesthetic.

Moreover, there are quite a lot alternative ways for predicting how this or that medicine will act. Crash test dummies (test devices which mimic humans) have internal sensors and they can be used for experimentation instead of torturing living animals. It is also possible to make a model of the human immune system in order to check whether a particular vaccine is effective or not. Such models are referred to as Modular Immune In Vitro Constructs (MIMIC). And it will benefit both keep in save animals and save government money, because using animals as experimentals costs a lot (Shelter, food for prolonged period).
