Is competition among students good?

Competition is good. It's natural, and it drives kids to be the best student, or sports player or whatever, they can be. Most people who don't agree, and make the biggest noise, are parents with slack children who feel threatened by other kids' successes. It's not 'silly' that some people have to lose. Success isn't a one-off, you try harder and you have a better shot at winning next time.

Competition among students is good. Even if you win or lose, it still is a positive outcome. If you win, you become more confident in yourself, you are able to believe that you are actually smart and can suceed. If you lose, you will be able to find out what you did wrong and therefore fix it and improve yourself.

I disagree with your agreement that competition has positive outcome, despite of you win or not. In many cases, exectly in SCHOOLS, I don't say about universities or something higher, I speak about schools where study little boys and girls. In many cases there are not always good outcomes

From my point of view, competition is an essential part of our development. Due to competition we evaluate ourselves, do our best to become better than others, and to be on top. Competition among students is really good, as students compete with their peers, their academic achievements improve and as you see there is only positive effects of competition.

It gives students the encouragement to be the best and it may decrease the amount of slackers. Students should always aim to be the best, so the competition may prove usefull for improving grades and efficiency.

i think competition between students is great. as student i really think that it is helping us to set higher goals and try harder. and if we fail hte first time then we try even harder the next time! i really think healthy competition between students should b encouraged in all schools.

Students need to be prepared for the real world, and guess what? There is competition in the real world. It's true that whether you win or lose doesn't matter - you can benefit from both. There are important life lessons to be learnt in both cases.

from my point of view, competition among students is not good. why? because: 1) you can degrade someone, or his self-esteem. it is not honest and good. 2) it will be good when, for example, students from different schools compete. i do not like competitions among the students, which are from one school. it is very bad.

also, i want to say that, when you win in competition, it does not mean that you are very clever, and your opponent is stupid. if u win, it is just the point of that you knwo something, and you should move in this way and learn more and more. not just stop, and say that you are a winner and smth else.

In my opinion… Above all you should compete with yourself. To compete with somebody is not so wise, because overtaking contender and feeling taste of a victory, we forgot about that someone was defeated. Mainly you shouldn’t think that defeated person more silly than you.

Are you really so soft that you'd rather see both fail than have one be held above the other because it might hurt the other's feelings?

I do not think that competition between students is a good thing, because it is very stressfull for them. As we know all people want to be best (most of us). It is not correct to make them such as enemies, moreover it will be better if students will help to each other.

In some cases, competition is good. but, it shoud be just for improving yourself. when peopel compete with each other, for example in study, they try to be better, do their best, work harder . but if they won't compete, they may stay on one place, and stop developing themselves.

I agree with you. With my opinion above I wanted to tell that firstly person shoul compete with yourself and then with others, because we know that in school most of students don't know how to compete. In some cases they do bad actions to their enemies in class and it follows to bad end. In short pupils always want to be winners, but it is known that it is impossible. Always there are winners and those who were defeated. It is the fact. Firstly, teachers should explain in schools what competition means.

That's exactly why competition in schools is a good thing, by allowing this competition, you create a motive to actually advance.
