Wrong.

Gimme a source. A link.

What we call our soul is simply our consciousness and our sentience. Our self-awareness. And all this can be explained by neuro-science. It's all brain chemistry. Trillions of neurotransmitters firing back and forth, swapping chemicals and electrons, which is all that comprise emotions.

This is why psycho pharmaceuticals work. They affect these chemicals in our brain.

There is no evidence of a soul. None. With modern brain imagery we can see where all of your emotions come from, And we can even enhance them or diminish them with electro-stimulation. Didja know we can even induce a "religious experience" in your brain? Yes, we have found the God Spot! LOL.

Seems that if there was a soul or a god that this would not be so easy, And that he wouldn't allow men to mimic him. Right?

Here's just one post, in layman's terms, to help you get started. Let me know if ya need more. Or if you want to debate this topic formally.

A while back on the History Channel and more recently on once of Morgan Freemans specials they had a man who had developed a machine that can detect an energy or life force leaving the body right after death.

Is that a soul ? I cant say because I really dont know what one would be made of, but the first time I saw this the man claimed the force headed out into space in the same direction every time.

And before you say it, no I dont believe in God.

I'd like to begin by extending my warmest of welcomes to both Pro, and our viewing audience. Hopefully this shall be an exceptional debate.

I have several contentions about the existence of god. I'll put some more down next round as well...

Contention 1: Pointless Evil

This simple argument is probably the most well known.

1. If God exists, then God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenovolent.

2. If God is omnipotent, then God has the power to eliminate all evil.

3. If God is omniscient, then God knows when evil exists.

4. If God is omnibenovolent, then God has the desire to eliminate all evil.

5. Evil exists.

6. If evil exists and God exists, then either God doesn't have the power to eliminate all evil, or doesn't know when evil exists, or doesn't have the desire to eliminate all evil.

7. Therefore a being such as god cannot possibly exist.

For the purpose of the debate, Pro and I agreed in a previous PM that evil shall be defined as pain and suffering.

Contention 2: Argument of Lust and knowledge:

1. God is supposedly all knowing and morally perfect.

2. Having a lust for someone is a sin according to the bible. [1]

3. If god is all knowing, he should know what lust feels like.

4. If god knows what lust feels like, he has sinned and is not morally perfect.

5. If god doesn't know what lust feels like, he is not all knowing.

This is also a very widely known atheistic argument.

Contention 3: The mechanics of the universe can be explained without god.

This argument goes as such:

1. In order to prove that god exists, there must be a need for one to explain the mechanics of our universe.

2. There is no need for a god in order to explain the mechanics of our universe.

Conclusion: Therefore, god probally does not exist.

I shall now put out a plausible way the universe could come to be without god, and how It could be this "Intelligently Designed" in order to support premise two:

Cause of the universe 1: Simultaneous causation:

This cause of the universe occurs as such:

Three states of the universe come into being at the same time, State A causes B, which causes state C, which causes state A; all at the same time. The cause and effect exist simultaneously, all having causal explanations.

Why accept God over simultaneous causation?

L.A. Mitchell came up with this, I deserve no credit for it whatsoever.

The Theory of a Multiverse:

The multiverse is the idea that we had so many different universes, with so many different combinations, that it made the perfect conditions for us to live in.

Why accept god over the multiverse?

Contention 4: Then instead of asking where our universe came from, ask where God came from.

If we are to say that god is real, then we also must solve where he has come from. Otherwise, saying this is the solution to the universe is just opening a new book of questions. You have two options here:

A: He doesn't have a creator.

This would mean that humans do not need a creator as well. Or in other words, an intelligent designer. If the all mighty, perfect, most intelligent being in the universe doesn't need one, why do we?

B: He does has a creator.

This then is flawed because god couldn't be the most powerful being in the universe if he had a creator. It also opens the unsolvable question as to who made the god, and that god, etc. It basically opens an infinite loop of gods.

Now I shall stop and allow our debate to grow. I think I have spread very reasonable doubt about the existence of god, and thus I have met my BoP. I contend that you all have good reasons to reject the Christian god.

Yet again, thank you for accepting the debate.

Side: No, god is probably not real.

First off, welcome to Create Debate. It is refreshing to see an atheist who is cordial and respectful. Many atheists on this site are just the opposite.

I see you are using the atheist play book to perfection. Not a surprise. I will now dissect your comments. Just because God chooses not to eliminate evil doesn't mean He doesn't exist. God knows there is evil, he has the power to eliminate it, He allows evil because there is only one place that has no evil. That place is in Heaven with Him. God only made one Heaven, what would be the point in making two Heavens? Our ultimate goal is to meet God and erase all the pain and suffering we encounter on Earth. Your argument doesn't even come close to proving there isn't a God.

As far as lust goes, once again, God knows what it is and He doesn't lust. He has not sinned like you claim. I can know what something feels like without actually doing it. Your point makes no sense.

You are going to have to explain you simultaneous causation in scientific terms. Just making a comment means nothing unless you can back it up with evidence. You have offered absolutely nothing by that comment that would not allow for a God.

How about you explain the mechanics of the universe without God. I will be waiting your explanation.

Now, as far as the Multiverse goes, there is very little scientific evidence that suggests there is another universe out there. And what evidence there might be, has not been tested or observed. It is simply an idea. And even if there is another universe that we find, what relevance does it have to this one. If there isn't a direct correlation that affects ours, than two or more universes mean nothing. I could claim God created more than one.

You do realize that you are promoting religion and God by claiming the Multiverse exists, dont you? Many religions claim there are more than one universe, so you believing that reinforces the notion that a God exists.

God is an eternal spirit. The better question is where did all the matter and energy come from, because we know it can't be eternal. Only a supernatural being could create everything we see today.

I will be awaiting your scientific evidence that I have asked for. Once again, welcome to the site.

Dude, stop. This debate is older than the word debate. If this debate was cheese, I would have thrown it out eons ago. If this debate was a woman in a club, she would be a cougar's great great great grandmother. If this debate started as a lump of coal, it'd be a diamond by now. If this debate was any older, it would have been here before God was alleged to be here.

Nothing new will be said that hasn't been said literally hundreds of times before... on this site alone, I'm sure.

I just felt that my answer for this debate would be best expressed with my view on this debate, which I reiterate that it is old.

Side: Yes, god is probably real.

There is strong evidence for the Big Bang theory which is one of the many reasons I am sure he doesn't exist. If God exists then why would he have created the universe through the long and slow process of the Big Bang? Surely he could have just made the whole place appear out of nothing if he were omnipotent?

while i don't believe in the Christian god i do believe that there is a God. there are plenty of reasons. one the Christian God, as described in the Bible, which i also believe is crap, is an ego maniacal attention hog who is about as just as the justice system. not to mention the bible has more contradictions than you would care to admit. for example, the bible says that Adam and Eve were the first men and women but before the story of Adam even begins the bible mentions Gods creation of men and women. plural. Then the Bible says that God cannot be in the presence of sin yet in the story of Job he was talking to Satan face to face... The god of the bible also seems to have little common sense, if he is omniscient, why create Lucifer knowing of his betrayal, why put the tree in the garden knowing what it will cause, why flood the earth knowing it isn't gonna help, why sacrifice your son knowing people won't care?

Side: No, god is probably not real.

The scary part of this whole thing is that, even though us rational and logical folks are winning the debate, that, as of right now, eight deluded souls really think there is a good chance that some sort of personal and caring sky god actually exists! LOL.

"The Creator of the Universe knows me and actually cares about me!"

LOL

Wow.

At least, I am assuming that the debate author was referring to a personal, theist, Biblical sort of god.

The ONLY type of a god (I hate to use that word) I sometimes ever even give a slight chance of existing is an impersonal Deist type of Creator. A sort of Universal Creative Intelligence. More akin to a vast energy field than, say, a Yah-Yah of the Bible. Who was given so many petty human emotions in the Bible that he is patently absurd. A murderous, jealous, tyrannical bully god.

I would sooner worship Satan. Who at least seems to be running the show here on Earth, given the state of affairs now, and throughout history.

Yah-Yah, on the other hand, seems impotent. As he has done nothing and the most religious nations in the world are also the poorest and suffer the most. So why waste time on a limp dick god like that?

LOL.

Might as well get in with ol' Lucifer. Side with the winners, amigos.

LOL

Side: No, god is probably not real.

God is probably not real, but before you get angry and dislike this argument, hear me out.

Because the key word is probably.

You see, science can explain all sorts of things, from where humans come from to why things are this way and other things that way...you get the idea. It's best if you look at other arguments for that kind of stuff, because I'm not the best at explaining things.

So, science can explain everything. God can't. Or at least, the God you think of. Perhaps the best way to think about it is that there is no denomination to God.

Let me explain.

So, the Christian God cannot be true while all we know about science is also true. Things like evolution and creationism conflicts with each other. But take a step back and think about what's missing...the unknown.

There is so much out there that has yet to be figured out. From what lies beyond the observable universe to subatomic particles. Perhaps things that can shake the whole foundation of science.

With this in mind, there could be (unlikely) a God, however, a minor god. This god may even have an afterlife, maybe...but unlike. This god could be dead, could be alive and just weak, or sleeping.

Who knows, what will probably be true is atheism, but the world will never truly know.

Side: No, god is probably not real.

Let's forget about all that nonsense for now. It's boring, as are your countless nauseating pasting of bible tracts. If we want to read that stuff we can look it up and read it ourselves, new meat.

But hey...since you're so very proud of your bible and are always panting about its wisdom and how it's inerrant, how about explaining some of this loathsome shit.................

There is plenty of evil in “the Good Book,” but here are some highlights:

1. God drowns the whole earth.

In Genesis 7:21-23, God drowns the entire population of the earth: men, women, children, fetuses, and perhaps unicorns. Only a single family survives. In Matthew 24:37-42, gentle Jesus approves of this genocide and plans to repeat it when he returns.

2. God kills half a million people.

In 2 Chronicles 13:15-18, God helps the men of Judah kill 500,000 of their fellow Israelites.

3. God slaughters all Egyptian firstborn.

In Exodus 12:29, God the baby-killer slaughters all Egyptian firstborn children and cattle because their king was stubborn.

4. God kills 14,000 people for complaining that God keeps killing them.

In Numbers 16:41-49, the Israelites complain that God is killing too many of them. So, God sends a plague that kills 14,000 more of them.

5. Genocide after genocide after genocide.

In Joshua 6:20-21, God helps the Israelites destroy Jericho, killing “men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.” In Deuteronomy 2:32-35, God has the Israelites kill everyone in Heshbon, including children. In Deuteronomy 3:3-7, God has the Israelites do the same to the people of Bashan. In Numbers 31:7-18, the Israelites kill all the Midianites except for the virgins, whom they take as spoils of war. In 1 Samuel 15:1-9, God tells the Israelites to kill all the Amalekites – men, women, children, infants, and their cattle – for something the Amalekites’ ancestors had done 400 years earlier.

6. God kills 50,000 people for curiosity.

In 1 Samuel 6:19, God kills 50,000 men for peeking into the ark of the covenant. (Newer cosmetic translations count only 70 deaths, but their text notes admit that the best and earliest manuscripts put the number at 50,070.)

7. 3,000 Israelites killed for inventing a god.

In Exodus 32, Moses has climbed Mount Sinai to get the Ten Commandments. The Israelites are bored, so they invent a golden calf god. Moses comes back and God commands him: “Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.” About 3,000 people died.

8. The Amorites destroyed by sword and by God’s rocks.

In Joshua 10:10-11, God helps the Israelites slaughter the Amorites by sword, then finishes them off with rocks from the sky.

9. God burns two cities to death.

In Genesis 19:24, God kills everyone in Sodom and Gomorrah with fire from the sky. Then God kills Lot’s wife for looking back at her burning home.

10. God has 42 children mauled by bears.

In 2 Kings 2:23-24, some kids tease the prophet Elisha, and God sends bears to dismember them. (Newer cosmetic translations say the bears “maul” the children, but the original Hebrew, baqa, means “to tear apart.”)

11. A tribe slaughtered and their virgins raped for not showing up at roll call.

In Judges 21:1-23, a tribe of Israelites misses roll call, so the other Israelites kill them all except for the virgins, which they take for themselves. Still not happy, they hide in vineyards and pounce on dancing women from Shiloh to take them for themselves.

12. 3,000 crushed to death.

In Judges 16:27-30, God gives Samson strength to bring down a building to crush 3,000 members of a rival tribe.

13. A concubine raped and dismembered.

In Judges 19:22-29, a mob demands to rape a godly master’s guest. The master offers his daughter and a concubine to them instead. They take the concubine and gang-rape her all night. The master finds her on his doorstep in the morning, cuts her into 12 pieces, and ships the pieces around the country.

14. Child sacrifice.

In Judges 11:30-39, Jephthah burns his daughter alive as a sacrificial offering for God’s favor in killing the Ammonites.

15. God helps Samson kill 30 men because he lost a bet.

In Judges 14:11-19, Samson loses a bet for 30 sets of clothes. The spirit of God comes upon him and he kills 30 men to steal their clothes and pay off the debt.

16. God demands you kill your wife and children for worshiping other gods.

In Deuteronomy 13:6-10, God commands that you must kill your wife, children, brother, and friend if they worship other gods.

17. God incinerates 51 men to make a point.

In 2 Kings 1:9-10, Elijah gets God to burn 51 men with fire from heaven to prove he is God.

18. God kills a man for not impregnating his brother’s widow.

In Genesis 38:9-10, God kills a man for refusing to impregnate his brother’s widow.

19. God threatens forced cannibalism.

In Leviticus 26:27-29 and Jeremiah 19:9, God threatens to punish the Israelites by making them eat their own children.

20. The coming slaughter.

According to Revelation 9:7-19, God’s got more evil coming. God will make horse-like locusts with human heads and scorpion tails, who torture people for 5 months. Then some angels will kill a third of the earth’s population. If he came today, that would be 2 billion people.

Now, Christians have spent thousands of years coming up with excuses for a loving god that would allow or create such evil. In fact, they’ve come up with 12 basic responses, which are the subject of The Tale of the Twelve Officers.
