Is honesty the best policy?

It's not fun... but in the long run, being honest will force you to be a better person.

There is not only a hurt done unto others when you lie to them, but there is also a personal cost as well.

When you lie to others you begin to loose faith in what other's tell you as well. You also loose faith in your own integrity, and thus loose self confidence.

There is a lot to be said about an honest person, none of it bad.

True that.

No matter how good everyone says honesty is it's looked down upon as being weak in most parts of western societies - especially in the business and financial world.

Most of the time. Things tend to work out for the best in the long run when you're honest. And integrity can be a powerful thing to have.

The only exception is when someone will use the truth to hurt you or your family or friends, and even then you have to judge whether being deceptive is worth it.

I don't know whether to support or dispute.

I would love an honest world. In this society however every1 is a liar. I myself feel that I can't trust anyone so lie purely out of lack of faith rather than being a dishonest person. I am 100% sure nobody in our societies are 100% truthfull (excluding exceptional cases i.e. safety)

as hard as it can be sometimes, yes. in a long run it will save alot of trouble. plus trust is a really hard thing to earn back once you lost it

Personally , i would rather humbly tell the truth , than risk someone calling my bluff and revealing , not only a liar , but also a fool.

well in my thoights truth may surely earn enemies but the number would be much lesser then the number of the people that will trust u for your honesty.

Truth may be really hard to say but if lie once said its harder still to cover it.

u yourself start feeling guilty aboutthe llies u have told

Side: No

I think so and a person feels so good when he professes honesty.

Side: Yes

Tell your boss what you really think of them and see if you get promoted. Nobody wants to know the truth. Fiction is better than the truth. The truth is why nice guys finish last, lies are more impressive. Integrity is word that does not exist any longer, example the media. Fox news is full of something, integrity is not it. Find me one person that always tells the truth and will have found the biggest lier there is.

Gandhi was a person who strove to telling the truth nearly all the time. In his youth he didn't always (what do you expect - it is dismissible) but in adulthood that was his main goal.

His fame shows how men aspire to be as bold and brave as him but are too weak to.

Men who lie are weak. Men who tell the truth are stronger. (I have deliberately not expanded on this and will if you are able to argue it sufficiently)
