Is it a good thing that the U.S is going to strike Syria

Now hopefully everyone knows what is going on with this whole Muslims terrorist group called ISIS. If you don't then you got to get out of all this technology and find out what is going on. Anyways now the U.S wants to strike Syria because they have some of these terrorist groups in their country. Obama have stated that he would not send any soldiers out there on land, but we all know that's not really going to happen. Could all of this bring more destruction to the world than what it is supposed to be helping the world.

Good is subjective. Even if I felt that Syria had it coming, or I felt that America should have it's nose in everyone's business I still wouldn't call it 'good'. At best I'd call it necessary, just as the civil war in the states was necessary.

I cannot decide what I think about this.

As a veteran of the Iraq and Afghan Conflicts, I abhor war, and I hate to see our boys going to fight in some other place again, against something that does not directly affect the freedom or safety of American Citizens. Morally, war is a waste of human potential, and the only people who benefit from it are rats in the trenches, politicians, and rich men. Fiscally, it is insanely wasteful, and expensive. The last two conflicts we were involved in (we haven't been to war since WW2, but I digress), were entirely put on a credit card, and my great grandchildren will be paying for them.

There is much suffering going on around the world. The brand of violence and mayhem that is taking place in Iraq and Syria today is going on all over subsaharan Africa right now, and in places in South America, and even in the US neighbor: Mexico. If we truly cared about the plight of the people there, why are we not sending the boys in every single time there is injustice? The answer, of course, is oil.

With that being said, the only compelling argument I have heard for us going back over to Iraq for the third time in my life, is that we destabilized Iraq by invading it under false pretenses in 2003, and subsequently occupying the country for almost 10 years. In that sense, I almost feel compelled to say that we SHOULD do something, but I hate war so much that it is difficult for me to actually be in favor of it.
