Is it alright to desciminate against men with long hair?

As some of us might actually know, a 4 year old boy in Houston, Texas, is being suspended from his Elementary School for having Shoulder length hair. Now, here, you've probably stoped reading this to go "WTF? how is this possible? you're lying!" Well, here's a YouTude video that is a News Story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCVbuNg1s2M and, here, we have someone being denied a job for having his long hair. Coincedince? I think NOT!!

I believe it is personally legitimate to, a certain degree, allow judgments to be based upon a male's hair length. Hearken back to the sixties and seventies when people were sex and drug addicts, people have no choice but to relate and discriminate. While I do not agree that they are freaks, I do agree that it is entirely unnecessary for men to have long hair. What purpose does it serve? If you say it's your right to individuality, then you must be willing to make sacrifices for it. If you are applying for a job, you're sacrificing your individuality either way. It's your choice, there are pros and cons with each choice you make in life. I agree that it IS just hair. But people's looks are half of the first impression. Most males do not take the time to take care of their hair. They normally put it in a pony tail. Therefore, it looks incredibly unprofessional, greasy, and on top of that, immature. What purpose does long hair serve?

As you just said, it IS hair. How does that make any impression on ones work ethic? And who said they put it up in a Ponytail because they are lazy? Most of the time, when anyone puts their hair up in a ponytail, it's to keep it out of their eyes, so that pretty much invalidates that part of your argument. And let me just say for the record that all of the long haired guys I know take very good care of their hair. And as for the Hippy argument, that was just to protest the Vietnam war. It's not the 70's anymore; people are allowed to express their opinion. If they are told they are not allowed a job for having long hair, it is an infringement on their 1st Amendment constitutional rights.

I don't agree that they are freaks, but in the reference to the boy in school. My children had to follow the school dress code, keep a clean appearance and have respect for the teachers. I don't see anything wrong with that. After they are out of school and on their own do as you darn well please but parents should also maintain their children. Don't let them walk around like farrel animals. Chop the hair out of your respect for the school authorities. For crying out load, its not like the kid getting a haircut is hurting him emotionally. Sounds like a parent issue if you ask me. They had to learn from someone. Private school makes ALL kids wear uniforms, keep clean appearance, traditional hair cuts, no more than one set of earrings(a huge hell yeah)!! Keeps the kids from killing eachother over what they wear, how they wear their HAIR, etc. Kids can be down right mean. CHOP that crap!!! Its only hair.

Someone was born with a heart of stone on a right wing! You should count your blessings this isn't YouTube, or you'd be trolled into insanity. Republican Ideas aside, HOW ON EARTH IS HAVING A DIRTY APPEARANCE DISRESPECT TOWARDS THE TEACHERS?! It's not like the hair is going to insult the instructors! Let me just say that you are dead wrong; that boy likes his hair long, (GASP!) and more importantly, he's growing it out to donate to Locks of Love. Forcibly cutting it will probably leave some negative Psychological repercussions. (No way!) While Students need to respect their Teachers, the Teachers should also respect that the student has a right to an opinion, and all freedom to their appearance. More over, he's being suspended for being a distraction in class. If that's a distraction, then I'm a HUGE distraction to my School and Classmates. That "crap" as you call it, is still a part of the human being. And might I ask how long YOUR hair is?

Me personally, I hate those who discriminate based on HAIR. This includes those who make Blonde jokes and Red Hair jokes. is hair so provocative? Having long hair myself, I am harassed constantly: "Cut your hair!" "You look like a girl!"

No.

The minimum length for an argument is 50 characters. The purpose of this restriction is to cut down on the amount of dumb jokes, so we can keep the quality of debate and discourse as high as possible.
