There doesn't seem to be a specific bible verse that says "follow Jesus christ or you will burn forever" but it is strongly implied by the common christian teaching that you must be "saved" from your sins by Jesus in order to escape damnation. This is what the average christian parent is teaching their children, even if it is not consistent with biblical canon. And the way most christians conduct themselves and perceive christianity is not entirely consistent with the bible either, for example the common belief in a trinity, a rapture before the tribulation and the failure to stone gay people and adulterers.

I know. Isn't that weird...

I'm not a good Christian, nor do I claim to be. One time I parked in a handicapped spot, but not on a handicapped person, so no big sin there I guess.

Define "damnation".

I have no problem with what others do until they say everyone MUST follow their lead (or leader). The thoughts have been petering out rapidly as people begin to discover the reasons things happen. I think, by the end of this century mythology will be mostly gone ... if there IS an end to this century.

Of course, as has been for centuries, the argument over whether we should follow Christ or Allah could end the century at any time, now that we have the technology and we ignore THOSE ethics! If the "Trumadores" keep it up we WILL likely "burn in Hell" ... hell on Earth.

I agree with you totally! I was raised in Baptist family and I don’t even speak to my mother bc of her extreme evangelical rants. But, I’m even more scared of Islam! It’s extremely fascist and can’t mix with other religions at all.

raising children to think that they MUST follow a certain religion is brainwashing and is inherently counter productive and unethical especially given the fact that all religions are blazingly incorrect and rooted in fairy tails.

My thoughts exactly.

Fairies don't have tails. Silly boy.

I completely agree with you DS, but, I also believe in democracy and their right to any religion they wish to follow. Without that we don't have democracy. The psychobabble they believe IS their right, so I have to accept it, as much as I disagree with it. I draw the line when they say I must do the same .. that is not democracy either, ain't gonna happen!

It's more ethical than raising them to be ignorant of the possibility.

No. It is sad how well those kind of indoctrination tactics work on impressionable young kids. Children have evolved to believe whatever their parents tell them. You'd be surprised how many older children still believe in Santa Claus. And the same works with God. Christians take advantage of this trait to pass on their beliefs.
