Is it fair for a significant other to demand you to stop talking to your friends?

Is it ok for a significant other (boyfriend or girlfriend mainly) to tell you that you have to stop talking to someone because they dont like them?

Are there reasons that would make it ok?

Is it never ok?

What's your opinion?

Completely understandable.

just for the thought of throwing a counter argument out, isnt it true that, if your in love with somebody, truly in love, they could be the only person you need?

If for example my girlfriend was jealous of me talking to another girl, I would try to stop talking to her so much and almost completely stop I just wouldn't to make her jealous, jealousy is a normal human emotion and to me is understandable.

it is my view that it is NEVER ok for anyone to demand that u stop talking to someone unless there is a complete disregard for any respect, in which case the relationship should end, not the friendship. If i chose to cheat, its because i like the other person more. not because the other person is a bad person, keep in mind, ive only cheated once in my entire life to date.

Depends on who was there first. If you knew your friends before you even got with your significant other (which is usually the case) and they say not to talk to them, tell him/her to fuck off.

Side: Totally not cool.

Now..., keep in mind that you cannot sleep with your friends..., unless they have benefits..., so..., your significant other does carry some weight ;)

I think they would have to have a very, very good reason for the request and if they did, then the spouse should have already known that me thinks.

I guess it all depends on the situation.

I mean if you have friends your significant other should not have a problem with you talking to them.

On the other hand if your friend is of the opposite sex and has thing for you then yes that is a problem.

generally I don't care if my significant other has friends I don't ever tell him to stop talking to them because it wouldn't be right. (well it's also because most of my friends are male)

Side: Totally not cool.

A lot of guys don't realize this but..., when your girlfriend is talking to someone else on the phone..., she's not talking to you about stupid crap you don't care about like your feelings. This means that you can then focus on the important stuff..., like the game ;)

And..., if she's really into her conversation..., you may even get away with checking out other chicks or call one on your cell phone and chat/flirt with her ;)

However, if you're a woman..., you probably want to keep an eye on your man. Men are dogs and if you're not paying attention, they'll stray ;)
