Is it okay to temprorarily ban someone and unban them later?

Yes.

I guess so assuming the person did something to warrant this temporary ban. As long as you have a valid reason I see no problem with temporarily banning someone.

Fair enough, I agree. .

Side: Yes.

Why? I think the reasons for banning would be if they are being abusive, hurtful, or spamming. If they have done any of those things, then ban them. If they are simply irritating you, or have sent you something you don't want to respond to right away, simply don't respond for however long you want. There is no obligation to respond to anyone immediately.

But seriously, what is the benefit of a temporary ban vs a permanent ban? Like, what would the circumstances be for each? Just curious.

Side: No.

There really is no point. Someone is almost certainly not going to return to a debate that they have banned from, because why would they? By banning them, you have indicated that they are not welcome on your topic, so unbanning them would be something to make yourself feel better, essentially.

I see what you are saying but at the same time I see no problem taking a break for a day. :)

I mean you can take a break for a day in many ways that don't require banning someone. You could step away from the website, just step away from that debate, etc. By banning someone, you are in effect doing far more than taking a break for a day.

No people like you should be banned permanently from this site.

Side: No.

Banning is for children. If you can't handle another person's opinion, you aren't cut out for debating.
