I think a lot of things are possible, so maybe in a parallel universe or something, or maybe that we haven't discovered in our own universe. Is there a specific reason that you ask?

I think it is possible that the phenomenon we call Dark Energy may be comprised of a force that we have not yet discovered. You also must remember that Gravity has not yet been completely figured out. We still cannot explain what exact medium it uses to attract matter. Oh.. We know full well it exists of course. And we see what effects it has, and we feel its force every single day and minute. But we don't know what its comprised of at the smallest level. We use the term Gravitons but that's just a pkaceholder catch all term. Just like Dark Energy...which makes the universe expand faster than it should.

Gravity itself doesn't attract matter. Ordinary space-time is flat. Gravity distorts it and matter follows the curvature of space-time. You can achieve the precise same effect through acceleration.

Getting back to the topic, then it is possible another force is needed to explain why the universe continues to accelerate outwards.

The medium is space, mass distorts space rather than attracting matter. What we don't know is how it distorts space. What we are missing is not a medium but a modality.
