Is it reasonable to expect celebrities to be good role models?
Personally, I've never understood why we care so much about what a person does just because they, say, act or sing for a living. It seems to me that our idolization of these people is a pure social construction, and I see no reason why they have to be treated differently or why they have to model ideal behavior. So what are your thoughts?

I believe it is reasonable to expect celebrities to be good role models because without fans they would not survive. Esp. if the celebrity is in the spotlight of children like a disney character YES children are looking up to you! 380 days ago | Side: Yes, they're being watched

Yes, but my question is why? I admit that when I was little I thought celebrities like Hilary Duff were so cool and I was interested to watch interviews from them and stuff, but I never really wanted to be like them. There's a difference. I don't understand where that desire comes from, and I think that even if children are at an impressionable age, parents are at least somewhat capable of intervening and teaching kids that they should want to be like teachers, older siblings, and other people that they see every day. Also, I don't understand your first sentence. What do you mean when you say that celebrities need fans to "survive"? 379 days ago | Side: No, they're people too
I think that they should be good role models. You don't have to perfect to be a role model. This IS a tricky topic, so I can't really say much (being restricted to reason and all) but I will say this: They're going to be emulated and they know it. 307 days ago | Side: Yes, they're being watched

I realize, people, this might be irrelevant, but celebrities ARE just people. The only reason they are 'celebrities' is because either they got lucky on the producers couch, or they can sing, or they look pretty (most don't.) They are just normal people, most quite stupid, and we shouldn't look up to them. If you want to become like them, then maybe. But for those people who have higher expectations for life, then you should look for better role models than Justin Bieber, or Rebecca Black e.t.c! 380 days ago | Side: No, they're people too

There are two types of celebrities, in my opinion. Those who are doing something they love and something the public love e.g. musician, artist, singer etc. and those who are fame hungry and will do anything for attention. For those who are doing something they love, they are not doing it for the celebrity status, they are doing it because they simply, love doing it, so we cannot expect them to be good role models. And for the ones who are fame-hungry they will do anything good or bad, and the only reason we will see them as role models is because of the press. The press enjoy making celebrities look bad, so we cannot expect celebrities to be role models simply because we want them to be, living in a country with a free and poisonous press. In conclusion, we grant fame to celebrities so we cannot complain when they do something that we disapprove of, so no it is not reasonable for us to expect them to be good role models 380 days ago | Side: No, they're people too
Most celebrities are just people. They aren't terrific role models and they make mistakes just like anyone else, many of the young lady ones end up addicted to something. Some do give back and try to help people but most just smile and visit a charity every now and then to make it seem like they're empathetic. It's okay to admire them in some way but they aren't immune to making mistakes and many people don't know the real them. 379 days ago | Side: No, they're people too
