Is reading fiction books/stories important?
Is reading fiction books and/or stories as important as it's hyped up to be? Are nonfiction books an acceptable substitute? Is there something of great importance that one gains from reading fiction that's not gained from reading nonfiction? I'm not asking if people should or should not read fiction. I'm simply asking if it's important for people to do so.
Yes, it's important.

I would say that it is. The two genre's address a myriad of the same questions but in different ways, something important for a balanced understanding. I also think that with fiction we have a way to explore our hopes dreams and imagination. Just as nonfiction allows us to satiate our intellectual curiosities in the realms of reality. Side: Yes, it's important.

I've just read a fantastic essay by Paul Auster for my English class about how human beings crave and need stories. I absolutely agree with him. We all love stories, and we all need stories, which can come in any format including books, television, movies, and even art or music. Side: Yes, it's important.

Some fiction books make you think "what if", and I think that's important to expand our minds. For example, books that talk about the future, a personal favorite of mine, can make someone think about what to prepare for, or can make them just think of the possibilities. Expanding your mind is important, and fiction books can do that for you. Side: Yes, it's important.
