Challenge Debate: Is secular society destructive as compared to modern conservatism?

Would western civilization be better off continuing the atheist secular trend, or embracing more Christian conservative principals?

Atheists like to paint conservatives as desiring a society where Christianity reigns supreme and oppresses all other beliefs. They go out of their way to proclaim how awful such a world is, even sacrificing the truth at times to do so. I would argue, what they are talking about is the very distant past, and much more recently, in the first half of the 20th century, we were at a cultural precipice save some dying beliefs on race. Bringing up medieval history when not even the most extreme conservative would want to go there is a sign of a weak argument. It is like when a weak minded pro-life activist makes a long argument about infanticide knowing full well the other side doesn't want that. The reality is that Atheists desire a society like the middle ages more than Conservative Christians do. They want a society where their religious choice and their belief system is the only acceptable answer, making no room or concession for anyone else. There is no "live and let live" mentality, they want all other beliefs to be secondary to theirs.

The rise of secular society in the west has been a rise of chaos. It has been a transformation that has erased decency and dignity of people and spoon feeds them something less. A unhealthy amount of pride and common hatred for Christianity. It is a society, that is so backwards and misguided, that citizens of Europe are finding more truth in Islam than the way they were brought up. So they are converting by the hundreds of thousands... To Islam... A religion that can be so easily argued against. I hope to address more specific issues, but I think this is the most damming argument. If secular society is so wonderful, why are people abandoning it?

If secular society is so wonderful, why are people abandoning it?

Where are your data from? As far as I know and I have read census data, number of believers in Europe is dropping. There are more and more atheists. European countries are more democratic than US, have universal healthcare, actual social system, no death sentence, free education in most of EU countries or very cheap or free for poor people. All EU countries are fully secular. Does that feel "medieval" to you?

Christian country like US, without social system, no universal healthcare, 40.000 killed by gun a year. public education on par with Africa, very low literacy level, allowed torture for foreign prisoners. Hundreds every year executed, banning science classes that are against Bible. Bombing abortion clinics, shooting doctors for abortions. 46% of Americans thinks that Earth is 6000 years old. Banning stem cell research...

Secular societies are better in everything...

Secular societies base their inner rules, laws on reason, logic or needs of the society. Rules/laws evolve with the society. Are written in very descriptive language to make sure that they do not contradict each other.

Science disciplines are not blocked/banned because they do not match with stone age mythology.

Abortion is only matter of woman that is willing to have one, people do not have vote on it just and only because it does not fits in their favourite story full of talking animals and magic.

Society based on religion is called theocratic like Iran, often authoritarian, cruel and technologically inferior to secular systems.
