yes, but that's how it's been going since Lincoln and the Republicans took over...

The thing is, especially now, we tend to like third parties more, but at least know that one major party will be much better (for our interests) than the other party. we figure if we vote for the third party, it lessens the chance of policy being ran more towards our interest.

now, I don't really see any third parties that interest me (Libertarian party is still too extreme for me), so i'm just gonna go with the Republican party. They are best to me. Even if there was a third party i liked more, i would still vote Republican because i would much rather have McCain than Obama, and really... that's the only two true choices we have.

I should say so. They are a blip in the media on their best day, and the media decides who we are voting for, what issues we care about, and who we are scared of.

That's so true! If you think about it, the media is the most powerful "corporation" in the country. One could even testify that the media is comunist-like. Like you said, it tells us what to believe and what is important and so many things.

I happen to love third and even fourth parties but who can get them elected? We would have to re-vamp our entire system in order to bring the focus off the two parties and I don't really see that happening. I truly wish we had an Independent party, a viable party, a party that could gain strength, power and the big bucks needed to enter the fray. I think people are sick to death of the way it is now but are very hesitant to create a monster! Somehow they don't quite see that having a strong third party could be a boon to the voting system and the nation. If a third party were to be started they would have to appeal to the general public in a big way. Sure, we've always been able to vote for an Independent, should there be one but the system overwhelms them, the money isn't there for them and in the end it amounts to a storm in a teacup.

I don't know if it's society or our own Government who are ignoring other parties...it's probably cause and effect. There's no doubt in my mind though that this country should request and build another legitimate and viable party.
