The metaphysical notion that the world is a simulation falls subject to the same infinite regress issues as other notions that rely on undetectable or observable states or conditions. If the world is a simulation, then why wouldn't our creator world also be a simulation, and it's creator world, and on and on until we have a multiverse of simulated worlds with one ultimate actual reality that is unknowable as it is indistinguishable from a simulation. It's a fun idea, but not one that should be taken very seriously unless or until it can be tested. Like the multiverse. Side: The world isn't a simulation

Although there is a possibility that the existence of the known universe is a simulation, there is no actual way to prove it that we know of. If it is a simulation, we wouldn't know because we would all be stuck inside of it. It's safe to say that the possibility can be shaved off by Occam's razor until we have found a way to tell.
