I would never torture for the sake of enjoyment. By asking "Would you ever" opens up all possibilities imaginable. I wouldn't torture someone who cut me off on the road. I would torture someone to bring about the end of a violent crime though. It all depends on circumstantial factors. Side: Of course

origin of torture is intention of revenge or peace etc it happens with everyone (but we have to be cool) for example your friends call u bad name and gives u bad word all the time this is a type of mental torture generally the person loses his temper and go angry but controlling ourself is advisable because they wont stop untill u stop taking it cool rather being angry they want to see u angry and frustrated... so have fun and take care Side: Of course

Water-boarding or torturing a handful of known terrorists to keep thousands of innocent people from a terrorist attack....absolutely. People want to be protected and sue if their love ones are not yet have no real idea of how that protection is to be carried out. Side: Of course

It depends on how you define torture. ;) My siblings and I used to have "torture time" and "tickle time". Tickle time was when one of us was held down while the others went to town tickling- it started to hurt. lol. Torture time was when someone was held down and the torturer would spit down over the face and pull it back up before it touched their face. Kind of like in Big Daddy when the kid spits all the way to the ground and pulls it back up. :D Side: Of course

Torture is cruel and inexcusable in all situations. It's an unreliable means of getting information. It often yields NO response, and when a response is given by the victim, it is often misinformation for the sake of stopping the torture. It transforms the torturer into a monster, no better than the scumbag he/she is torturing. When we sink to that, we give up our humanity. Side: never
I agree that torture is cruel; I agree that I would like to say that I would never torture anyone. But I know that if someone I cared about, someone I love, was taken from me, I would probably beat the shit (excuse my profanity, but I think it’s appropriate for this situation) out of someone that I thought had information. If someone were to kidnap my sister and I had a good idea who, I’d like to say I would do whatever was right in the situation- and if that required being cruel, I could probably do it. Does that make me a lesser human being? Probably. But does it highlight the fact that I am human, with human flaws and human limits? I think it does. People have a breaking point, and while strategic torture of prisoners by governments is wrong, I think you’re mostly fooling yourself if you think you could never torture someone, or that you could never kill or you could never save yourself or someone you love by sacrificing another. You’re human, I’m human, and humans have capacity for great love and great destructiveness. Side: Under Extenuating Circumstances

Beating someone up is not necessarily torture, nor is killing them. Torture, according to the United Nations Convention Against Torture, is: ...any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him, or a third person, information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity. It does not include pain or suffering arising only from, inherent in, or incidental to, lawful sanctions. I think torture requires SEVERE mental and physical anguish. Shooting someone and killing them instantly would not qualify. But ripping their nails out, and shooting different parts of their body daily until they bleed out would. So it all depends on how you go about it. Still, I'm not sure I'd have it in me to beat someone or kill them simply for wronging someone I was close to. I may have too much of a bleeding heart even for that. Side: never

People in favor of torture love to bring up situations in which America is teetering on the brink of catastrophe and the terrorist in his jail cell has information to stop it. Whenever I hear this, I have to laugh. I mean seriously, this never happens. We are never moments away from cataclysm with a terrorist who can give us info to stop it. This is the stuff of 007 movies and Dick Cheney's dreams. Enough with the reactionism already. We have to realize that not only is torture ineffective and unreliable, but morally unacceptable 100% of the time, regardless of the situation (as if the aforementioned situation ever arises at all) Side: never

Ok well lets look at it this way. Someone has kidnapped someone that you love, and you have apprehended one of the kidnappers and he/she knows where your loved one is. The only catch is that they refuse to tell you where, and that they will be dead in a couple of days. You are telling me that you would not torture them in order to gain the whereabouts of your loved one? You would let your loved one die? Side: Of course

There is very little chance that such a situation will be met where torture is required(Nowadays), and even if it is, it will probably not be us who tortures another person - I mean you can't just kidnap back the person then force him to reveal where the victim is! That would just be madness! Finally, I am sure that torture won't be needed, for, though the law is not perfect, it is usually enough. Side: never
