Is too much optimism bad?
Today, I was told that I am too optimistic and eventually when I go through something terrible I will never expect itand the damage from the blow will have much more of an impact. What do you think?

If the outcome of a situation can only go one direction and this direction is bad, but you still go into it with optimism then you are being too optimistic. If there is a chance that it could go good or bad. There's nothing wrong with being optimistic in that situation. I'm always optimistic in these situations. Maybe you are not all that optimistic? I think optimism is always bad, but too much pessimism is also bad. It's like the saying "Hope for the best, plan for the worst" In planning you are actively taking a stance on the negative side, so if you're always prepared for something bad, then chances of being caught off guard is low, now if you are always expecting things to go good, well that's when we have problems because in this world good things are not as common as bad things. This brings me back to why too much pessimism is a bad thing, on that stance you are not only ready for bad things to happen but you are eager for them and may act in ways that does bad things to others in pre anticipation of the things you were sure they'd do to you.
