Is your sexual orientation determined at birth?

are you born with a sexuality or does it developed under societies influence

The nurture vs nature issue has long been dabated. Some say there are people who are gay because of the way they were raised or something that happened to them as a child.

And then some say others are just born that way. I'm not them, so I cannot really say.

Milo Yianopolous, a gay man from the UK, says it is nurture, not nature. But that's only one opinion.

Are you suggesting that the answer can only be on or the other? Why can't both be true?

I'm not claiming to know. And frankly it's not impossible that both happen in our massive world human population. It could be that almost all of us are born one way but for a small group it's nebulous enough that influences in their life sway orientation one way or the other. That's not impossible.

But the reason I still vote on this side then is to say the opposite, that it's 100% learned and we therefore can change someone by changing the learning, has pretty much zero chance of making anyone happy or successful. That's just how you spread misery and hate.

Let people be whom they want to be, so long as it's legally voluntary both for them and for whomever they're having sex with. And if you're going to let them be then just take them at their word that they've always been the way they claim to be.

People have been homosexual in 1930’s 1990”s when they didn't even know the concept of homosexuality and have been taught by society only heterosexual acts and behavior. Society does have a big impact of people but somethings you are born with, there are many cases where people discover their sexuality but they don't develop they discover, which means it has always been there but they just either suppress it due to societal guidelines or were confused about their feelings but knew that they weren't interested in heterosexual relationships, but once introduced to the idea to homosexuality their feelings, desires and way of thinking made sense .

there are many sexual orientations that include bisexual homosexual asexual. bisexual is just another form of sexuality, it as other sexual orientations is determined by birth but is harder to discover because in order to know you are bi you need to experience sexual attraction to both genders with takes time to discover

you are born with your sexuality, since birth or childhood your sexual orientation is determined. you aren't born with no sexuality.

I dont agree with you at all there are no studies shown.... there for you have no proof. What I per say a woman was beaten or abused by her husband and didn't trust men anymore and as a result started to love women. That is an example of course. But I do believe that it can be both ways.

Please explain how that happens, when there is no homosexual orientation, no gay gene and no gay brain center. With heterosexuality it is due to being heterogeneous and heterogeneous, but there is no homogeneous or homogamous in humans. Do not assume that there is such a thing as homosexual orientation in humans, because there is. It and no evidence of such has ever been shown.

Hello again, UNTruth:

The human genome is comprised of around 20,000 genes, MOST of which haven't been decoded yet.. So, there may indeed, BE a gay gene..

And, we know even less about the brain.. So, when you SAY there is no gay brain center, it's simply UNTRUE..

through out the cores of your life you change a lot in many aspects but sexuality isn't one of them, yes your favorite color changes but color is opinion, sexuality isn't. yes most people don't have or understand sexual attraction until a certain age but what about people who do.

If only what your post were true. The original gay premise was sexual preference ans Dr. Alfred Kinsey proved thar sexuality is fluent, because chkices are. The majority of homosexuals were abused, so the behavior was developed by society.

Ninety percent of homosexuals were molested as children. If you don't believe this, ask them. If they are honest, they will tell you they were molested as children. Having had buttons pushed which God designed for marriage, their corrupted feelings want to be pacified and in their confusion they go the wrong way trying to express themselves.

This is true. In fact, 100% of gays that I have asked have stated that they were abused as children. The only people I ever hear saying that gays have not been abused are the left liberals who are not gay. This onenposter even said that he knew three gay friends who committed suicide and they were fine, and he did not find out until after they had committed suicide that they had been abused. I challenged him and told him that the must not have considered you a trustworthy friend.

People who believe that sexual orientation determined by birth, usually lack scientific proof. Their main argument that there are chromosomes that responsible who you will like girls or boys. To conclude my statement I have an argument that will crush all yours. How will you explain bisexual people. Why do they like both genders? HUH?

Side: developed by society

Sexual identification can shift over time, there are straight people who then identify as gay, and then there are gay people who then identify as bisexual, and so on.

There are epigenetic, genetic and hormonal influences as well, but you can't count out society and environment. Environmental factors covers some, but not all, of the sexual orientation.

I think both factors are at play. For instance, people are still gay even in homophobic societies. For example: Turing, Tchaikovsky, and the people who are put to death in countries like Uganda.

This being said, I think that it's largely a preference and that can change over time. For example, I was only interested in guys when I was a bit younger, but as I entered adult life I developed a strong preference for women. I'm currently dating a man and I'm happy in that relationship but if I dated someone else it would probably be a woman.

Some people's sexuality never changes and that's also fine.

But for me (and yes, this might seem like a stupid analogy), it feels a bit like preferring dark hair over fair hair. Sometimes you think dark hair is so attractive fair hair is just ugly in comparison, sometimes you acknowledge that that blond person over there is rather good-looking.

I disagree with you. There are not enough studies that completely prove that you were born with your sexual orientation. In addition, do you have your favorite color determined by birth? People are not born with a certain sexuality, since many people usually don't experience sexual attraction before puberty. Therefore when you growing up you change a lot, and your sexual orientation can change too.

Side: developed by society

Hi adeltue,

There are actually zero studies that prove that anyone was born with a homosexual orientation. ZERO. You are right in one sense, but homosexuality is like having brown eyes and wearing contacts fro green eyes and then telling everyone that you were born with green eyes. Or, like dying your hair blonde and living as a blonde.

Side: developed by society

You can't prove that sexuality doesn't change when you grow up. A little bit from my own experience, I met some people that were straight before puberty. Later I met them again and they came out already. you lack scientific evidence and studies.

According to Dr. Paul R. McHugh from John Hopkin's University. There is no such gene that is responsible for sexual orientation. The environment is very important for developing your orientation. Let's say that boy was born is gay family. He lives in this environment until becoming an adult. Most likely he would be gay because he lived in this environment.

Let me clarify. If there is no gene that develops homosexual orientation, then there is no homosexual orientation. The born in a gay environment argument also fails, because then all children would be right handed. You see, we are all heterogeneous and heterogeneous, with combined xx and at genes from mom and dad. For a person to choose to be homosexual in behavior, it would be due to failed development and a mental disorder. Imagine that a person had two good legs and they were fit for walking, but they developed a mental disorder against walking. Would they have a no walking ORIENTATION? No, they would have a me two disorder. Check the science.

There is no debate. Liberals and most gays need an excuse. There is no dice topic evidence for homosexual orientation. In the animal kingdom this has been proven, but due to politics it is ignored in humans. Yet, liberals claim that homosexual behavior is observed in 1500 species. So, tell me, if a gay never acts on his homosexuality and only has heterosexual sex then is he observed as a heterosexual. You can not have it both ways. The founder of the gay rights movement, Harry Hay, was married for 35 years to a woman, so was he bisexual or heterosexual? By the way, he was raped by a 24 year old sailor when he was 14.

Let me support this argument. The best case that gays have by homosexuality not being a mental disorder and the removal is Dr. Evelyn Hooker in 1953. Well, they reviewed her studies in the AKA and two DSM's were published with homosexuality being a 302 DSM. Evelyn used 30 subjects who were straight and 30 hand selected subjects by the Mattachine Society who were gay. Hand selected. Her stidrs failed when duplicated. In fact, one study had 2,000 subject and not showed that gays had psychological issues not common among straights, high rates of suicide, depression, inflated drug abuse and alcoholism. These studies showed that denying treatment for homosexuality is damaging to gays. The APA president, Dr. Nicholas Cummings, had to accepted the findings of Evelyn, so he only voted for the removal because of the promise of continued research. He noted that not only did the AKA and psychiatrists not produce any new research, they ignored all opposing research and stigmatized and ostracized any psychiatrist who produced these studies.

Hello Truth:

Let me start with your name.. It's YOUR truth.. But, it's nowhere NEAR truth.. It's a viewpoint tinged with anger and religious overtones..

Fortunately, in this great country of ours, you can BE who you wanna be, as long as it doesn't hurt anybody.. Being gay hurts nobody.. And, if you wanna be gay one day, and straight the next, you have that right...

Ain't this a great country, or what?
