The reason Israel started the blockaide was to prevent the militants from getting weapons and firing them at Israel, Israel didnt start it, the Palestinians started it, their the ones who invaded with the Arabs in the first war and got their a kicked. Israel was much smaller then it is today, but hey, the Arabs cant fight, and lost. Now, whats sad, is the Palestinians can get all the supplys they need, but they only use the tunnles to smuggle weapons in, they have more weapons in Gaza then Mexico. For the most part i think it is Israel's fault. Now i don't support the rocket fire by hamas and i think that is wrong, but the degree of retaliation by Israel is so out of proportion that i think it is criminal and revenge instead of defense. Israel has done a lot to make of life of those in gaza terrible and has gone to extensive measures to prevent supplies of any form to come into the area. They say it is because they want to stop weapons getting to hamas and certainly weapons are getting to hamas that way but food and other supplies that are not for militeristic means also can only get in that way. Israel has made gaza a desolate place and yet Israel continues to blame the local population for the situation there. If israel really were interested in peace and defense they would work to help their neighbor instead of put them under siege.

I think the whole situation started when Israel was formed following WWII. I think the UN made a huge mistake by doing this. They basically handed the Israelis the land that had already belonged to the Palestinians. The same premise occurred when Europeans fist settled America and took the land that belonged to the Native Americans.
