I would not be at all surprised. Our current way of living is unsustainable and Trump's withdrawal from the Paris agreement means that a country with a major environmental impact is refusing to be responsible for that impact. Developing countries are likely to be very resentful at the USA not being part of the agreement when they are expected to be. As long as we have climate change deniers in positions of power, or we fail to take enough action to protect our environment, humanity's clock is ticking. Side: It's true.

However one plane journey is quite a small drop in the ocean when you think about the number of flights at any one time. Can government fix the environment through taxation ? Perhaps. I don't make any pretences to be an economist or an environmentalist. But reducing the amount of damage we're causing is surely worth a small increase in taxes. For example, removing restrictions on polluting factories could have harmful consequences for the American people who live near them, increasing cases of cancer and heart and lung disease. Pollution can cause acid rain which could harm the beautiful National Parks which the Americans treasure. Your water could end up polluted; you may well find more places than Flint lose clean drinking water. Trump is concerned with corporations and profit, and if something rakes in more money then it's quite likely he'll trample all over the environment in order to get that money. Side: It's true.

Climate change predictions always seem to be wrong, and skewed toward the alarmist view (source 1). However let us for a moment entertain the idea that this time frame of 200 years is accurate. I'm very skeptical that humanity is incapable of innovating a solution in this period given the rate of our technological progress in recent years. As we learn more our rate of scientific advancement is increasing exponentially, providing the means for a solution. In addition, there is a clear impetus for sustainable energy, providing the motive for a remedy.
