Letting parents decide on their kids career is fair

Many kids seem to be selecting their careers according to their parents choice despite the fact whether they want to study that or not.

A parent should never force a kid into a career they absolutely hate but they should get the final say in a career choice. Some people randomly choose careers that a parent knows won't be good for them overall and wouldn't generate enough money or intellectual challenges or even career opportunities that would meet the kids standards. Your parent will most likely know types of jobs more than you do and if they're half decent parents than their choice won't be that bad. A kid should always play a part in the decision though.

Why should a parent get the final say in a career choice? It's not their career, it's their children's.

Some people randomly choose careers that a parent knows won't be good for them overall

And some parents will choose a career that won't be good for their child overall. Just because they are a parent does not mean they are guaranteed not to make stupid career choices.

and wouldn't generate enough money

I only half agree to this. While generating enough income to survive is obviously of great significance, money itself should not be the top priority when choosing a career. Regardless of what point you were making, I just wanted to make sure what I just pointed out is very clear.

You're basing your stance on a lot of "if's" instead of facts.

if they're half decent parents than their choice won't be that bad.

This statement highly concerns me. Their choice won't be that bad..... as to say what? That even if the choice is something you don't necessarily like, oh well, tough luck, the parent knows best? I don't believe such nonsense when it comes to a career. To a job, then I would be more willing to comply with that logic, but not a career.

A kid should always play a part in the decision though.

Whoever the career is for, is who should make the decision, their loved ones can and should play a part.

I totally agree with you. Reading this put a smile on my face i love how you have USED FACTS (the caps lock is for other people to know they should use facts too) AND LOGICAL EXPLANATIONS for what you support.

What if the child wants to become a child prosititute? Or a murderer? I don't think parents should get in the way of an "actress" dream or a "director" dream. This debate is dependable.

While generating enough income to survive is obviously of great significance, money itself should not be the top priority when choosing a career.

Im in the mix of "following your dreams" and "make sure it pays enough." In the end, if your dream job cannot make you have neccessities, then money should be the top priority. However, i am assuming my child is not the type of person who would be into being cold, hungry, and homeless. But if my child, as an adult, wants to be all three of those things, i will accept in the view that it is his/her choice but i will not accept it in the parental view. The parental view is me loving my child.

But then again, i am one of those people who tell their child to follow their dreams no matter what.

As long as the parents just offer advice only. Parents should not force their children to enter careers against their wishes.

I think it should be the kids choice to choose there own career because its what the kid wants for his future and not the parent's. Also I wouldn't want my parents to pick my careeer it might be something that I don't really like and I don't enjoy it or it might be a boring job. So that is why I think kids should pick there own career because it's there future.

Career is the work you want to do.

A job is work you don't have to like.

The career should be chosen by the one who the career is for. Loved ones, such as parents can and often do supply input. But the final and overall choice should be left to the one who the career is for (in this case, their children).

Lately my parents and I have been talking about careers and I realized they have been making "decisions" based on the average salary, NOT on what I would be strong in or even enjoy! Some parents may have some good inputs, but over all it must be the childs decision.
