I have heard this same story many times from relatives who have gone to College and had Liberal Professors make fun of them for their Conservative opinions, and then give them bad grades for not thinking like the Professor.

I'd keep my head down, mouth shut go to his 'therapy' session, make friends with the gays and trans people there and get that extra credit. Why? Well, unless I'm in love with Milo why not?

Gotta be a pragmatist with corrupt professors.

With teachers who don't have favorites and don't bribe students, you simply gotta put in the work and be the best. With teachers like this, you shouldn't bother being the best, just turn up to his extra credit sessions and he'll give you good grades.

I am not really disputing your statement, but rather commenting on how disastrous it is to our education system that this is an increasingly common problem, especially in elite universities.

You gave cogent and pragmatic advice, but you left out the most important piece: leave at the end of the semester and go to a different school with higher standards for the professors.

It is sad how much things have changed. The school where I did my undergraduate work was a small liberal arts university. The professors tended toward the left, but actually liked disagreement and disparate ideas. They believed in encouraging critical thinking, supporting with citable evidence, and having every student rigorously test as many ideas as possible.

No idea was taboo or unwelcome in the classroom, even if it contradicted the professors' viewpoints. If someone said Hitler had a brilliant and innovative vision for the world, it was incumbent on the student to explain and support the idea, and it was up to the other students to demonstrate the weakness in the idea.

I got phenomenal training in critical thinking, logic, and argumentation. I learned to disagree without being disagreeable, and to be fearless in the face of ideas I found scary or distasteful.

The quality of my education was enhanced by students bringing the full range of ideas into the classroom, and I hope there are still schools like that.

Not sure how experienced you are in the real world but most bosses and CEOs have the mentality of this professor and those that rise to the top of the company are those that 'agree with' the higher ups and attend the 'right events' as set by the higher ups.
