Maybe religion is necessary... ?

Well, minus the terrorists and cultists, religion can provide some benefits? It gives people meaning and belonging... bringing peace to their lives. Even if it is just ignorance, it still seems to make them live longer, and act in a more positive way towards others. Even if it is embedded with bigotry and lies.

Of course I would be avoiding the foolishness, biasism and gulibility involved, but we could evade that, if only we had a refined religion or something.

I'm not saying I'm converting or anything. This is just a mere observation. A crappy one at that.

Calling a Church dumb and the God or god someone believes in a thing is actually quite offensive. You may think it's a waste of time, but I, and other people, don't. I understand your point, but there are better ways you could have phrased that.

Religion was first created for morality. Kings always lie and torture their people. If they don't believe in god, it would be chaos. But it is because they were not educated properly. Today, people are not only educated academically, but morally. We don't need religion to have these moral values anymore. Religion also has its downs. To prove that god is almight, poweful deity, you must believe that he created the world. This causes trouble to science. You will also clash with other religions. So in my opinion, religion provides morality but now, people are already educated morally too. So religion is not exactly necessary.

Religion is necessary to mankind in that, IMO, it is more natural to have faith than not to. How so one may ask? Consider that the reason science exists is because our ancient ancestors were curious about the world around them, they wanted to know how to open something, so they picked up a rock, or a tool, curiosity. And so on and so forth.

With this said, if someone wants to live life with faith in a higher being, why bring them down? Why call them lairs and ignorant? Ignorant of what? Let them be.

When you actually understand what religion is, you realize that it is something one can practice either diligently, or without much effort at all. One thing you can't do is not choose. I think the religion of comfort and shallow happiness has pretty much been the dominant sect for...well I suspect a long time. I don't see this changing any time soon.

Religion gives people hope. Religion makes someone pray when someone they know is ill.
