Michael Moore's Gun Control Fallacy

I've disliked Michael Moore for quite some time, and films like Roger and Me and Bowling for Columbine are real good examples as to why.

He is a liar.

But getting past all of Moore's dishonesty, I would like to bring about an argument that Moore used in his film Bowling for Columbine and something that I've heard repeated a couple of times:

The NRA was formed the same time as the KKK "lol, no relation".

The NRA came 6 years after the first KKK.  Now, even if it was the same exact year, that would mean *jack shit*, but let's say that 6 years is a small enough gap to suggest that there COULD be a relation.  Let's look at some gun control laws to see how much they helped minorities:

The National Firearm Act was passed in 1934 which was Federal government's attempt to take down all the gang violence (created by various forms of prohibition earlier in those years).  Many gang members were immigrants (lol).

Gun Control Act of 1968 was passed by LBJ during much opposition towards the War, including the Black Panthers who would roam the street holding shotguns in attempt to protect themselves from what they felt were abusive white cops.  All of a sudden, the white on black crimes (caused by cops, according to the Black Panthers) were going down.  So how does government react to its inability to be racist?  Take away their guns ;)

Not to suggest that these laws were actually meant to be racist, but they're JUST as racist as the assertion that the NRA and KKK are related.  Especially since much initial requests for guns to be restricted was when blacks were trying to get their hands on guns in the first place.  That's right, the States' first gun bans were meant for blacks to be defenseless.

Of course, since racism doesn't exist anymore there should be no reason to be against gun control, right liberals ;)

I've added citations as a bonus.  Yeah... this is one of the few times where my beliefs came directly from some other people's arguments as opposed to me just figuring something out all of a sudden (so I figure I'd give credit where credit is due).

I think the problem with Gun control is that there is this conflict between constitutionality and practicality. We all know that the constitution guarantees our right to keep and bear arms, but I wonder if people know that the word arm actually comes from the gaelic word arm which literally means "weapon". The second amendment doesn't just apply to firearms but all "arms", if we were to follow the second amendment precisely as it was written it would allow for the ownership of any weapon, including some very devastating ones. However if we are to follow the spirit of the law, the intention of such a right was to allow average citizens to overthrow the government if the need ever should arise, and to defend our homeland from any foreign invaders.

How is it practical to forbid individuals from owning what is in many cases a life-saving tool?

Actually, arm, in this sense, comes from the Latin first declension feminine noun arma, armæ which means defense.

the intention of such a right was to allow average citizens to overthrow the government if the need ever should arise

Something which ought to have happened long ago!

Moore is a big liar, I don't trust a word that comes out of his mouth...There is clearly a lot of money in producing movies that spead ridiculuos lies and distortions to an easily manipulated public. And that is exactly why that fat slime-bag does what he does.

Moore is a liar. He is a typical super left neo-wannabe-communist who is all about spreading the wealth and helping the poor when, not shockingly, he's fucking RICH! I'm talking multi-million dollars a year rich.

What a hypocrite... Oh, and he's also the biggest elitist on the face of this planet. He just tries to wear raggy clothes on shoot and in public to give off this facade of how "down to Earth" he is.

Fuck you, Michael Moore.

Didn't see it.

But if you think that gun control, the lack of it as the case may be in the U.S. has anything to do with anything but gun makers and their lobbying money than you are mistaken.

Oh really? So the Black Panthers are actually some secret corporate conspiracy, ay?

Good ol' Davidh. Never a time when it's NOT the corporations at work. Liberty is an illusion created by Corporations to give them more power. And if they have to fuel a Black Revolutionary movement in order to gain that evil liberty, so be it.

... right, the Black Panthers.

Um...

Yeah. That was totally the point of what I was saying ._.

(Or maybe they have nothing to do with anything either way is what I was saying... nah, couldnt' be that)

Yeah, totally the powerful Black Panther organization is the centeral influence of most policy I'm sure, one way or another.
