Minimum Wage Increase In New York City Leads To Job Losses, Price Increases

Hello bront:

That's the spin, isn't it?? But, let's look deeper.. Suppose a burger flipper makes $9/hr and got a raise to $15/hr.. So, math tells us that we're talking about $6/hr.. Having been in the restaurant business, a good burger flipper can make 200 burgers per hour. That's $0.03/burger. Then you got the order taker, the order wrapper, the french fry maker, the janitor, the manger, etc... Let's just call it 10 support workers @$0.03/burger.. That's an increased cost of $.30/burger...

McDonald's sells a quarter pounder meal for $5.79.. If McDonald's just wanted to break even on wage increase, it would only have to raise the price of the above mentioned meal to $6.10..

As a consumer, would you AVOID that meal because it costs $.30 more? Uh, no you wouldn't.. You probably wouldn't even notice it.. Isn't math fun?

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/nyc-restaurants-cut-staff-hours-to-cope- with-minimum-wage-hike-hitting-15/

The legal minimum wage for New York City employers with 11 or more workers rose more than 15 percent on Dec. 31, 2018, to $15 per hour from $13, giving fast-food, retail and other employees a bump in pay. But some New York City restaurant owners say the latest minimum wage hike is forcing them to cut workers' hours just to stay afloat.

SUPER STUPID is CBS lying to you ???????????????????????????????????????????

Math is fun. Honesty is even more fun. My combo meals at Mcdonald's have gone up to nine dollars. They used to be 6 dollars!

Let's do the math ok? The price went up 50%!!!!!!!!!

It's not just the hourly rate of burger flippers. It would involve the cost of doing business with their suppliers. The price of just everything will go up. From cups and straws to condiments. It all adds up.

Which obviously has fuck all to do with the burger flipper. Sorry Mr Burger Flipper, we can't pay you enough to live on because it would "involve the cost of doing business" with our suppliers?

What you need my son is a good, old-fashioned slap in the mush.

Hello again,

I've simply shown that a raise from $9/hr to $15/hr, in a burger joint that sells 200 burgers/hr with 10 employees per shift, equates to $.30 cents a burger..

Looks like a 7th grade math problem. Some of you got it.. Some of you didn't.

I don't see why liberals can't understand why this happens. It's basic economics.

The sad thing is that Liberals do understand what will happen. They simply do not care.

They are fool socialists who would watch America drop to dead European economic status just so they can push through their ludicrous ideology.

The ones in charge understand. Unfortunately, there are way too many useful idiots in this country.

I don't see why you can't understand that slave labour is a bad thing.

I don't see why you can't understand that dropping useful phrases like "basic economics" does not explain or justify your support for slave labour.

If capitalist economics cause people to either get ripped off or face job losses then obviously capitalist economics are fucking shit, aren't they? Dumbass.

Minimum wage jobs are not meant to provide a living wage. They are for young people just entering the job market. They have high turnover because people get a better paying job and move on. It is not slave labor. No one is forcing anyone to work there.

Yeh, we did not see that one coming did we...NOT!

All any thinking person has to do, is think about what we would do if we had to start paying our neighbor $15 per hour to mow our lawn.

If it were me, I would start mowing my own lawn, and the neighbor hood kids would be out one more job.

Hello From:

Let's have some fun with math. I have an average size yard.

MY landscaper brings a helper and gets the job done in about in about 15 minutes.. I pay him $25 and throw in a $5 tip for his helper.

That works out to $15/hr for each worker for one quarter of an hour.. DUDE! I'm paying my lawnmowers $60/hr.. Course, I subcontract for the job, not the hours.. That's how contracting works..

Whaddya pay your neighbors in Bumfuk? $5/hr??? How long does it take? 2-3 hours? Do you get professional landscapers? Nahh.. Do you care? Nahh.

I did the math on my lawn and it is not worth paying someone $15 per hour when my lawn would take a neighbor kid a couple hours.

I will do it myself. He's out a job!

If I could get my lawn done in 15 minutes for a total of $15, I might do it.

My post was giving you an example of what businesses must do when forced to pay $15 per hour for entry jobs.

I agree my analogy was not the best :) DUDE!

Idiot. It's either $15/hr or $15/quarter hr. It can't be both.
