Most requested enhancement to CreateDebate - July 2011

I am not sure how committed anyone is to continually developing the CreateDebate Platform, But it seems to me that the more minds working on it the better.

So in the spirit of the creative commons let's see what kind of ideas pop up from the current user base this month

Add New Argument

Stop ANY and ALL menus from opening simply by running your mouse over them.

ARGH! I did it again !!! ;)

I prefer they open on mouse-over, clickling is just a little bit too much work :)

Why you lazy little ....... ;)

I'd definitely be up for that. .

What about downvoting that only works if one disputes an argument. Although it could lead to clutter, it would at least tell you who was downvoting you and may lead to some decent arguments.

Or alternately, publicly display downvoters' names (say, list the voters in the post title, in between the poster's name and the points), so the person who got downvoted can challenge them to explain their vote.

Publicly displaying upvoters would be nice too... when I read a particularly good post, I'd wish there was a way I could specifically tell the poster that I enjoyed reading it without having to add a reply that says nothing more than "I agree".

I don't see any merits for keeping the voting system anonymous on a debate site.

I think this would be a good Idea, kind of like the facebook "like" system. Although those that downvote and do not dispute probably have nothing to add, so calling them out will more than likely be fruitless.

Seconded. However, if someone else had already taken that opportunity for you, to reply to that argument, I could see how it could become a little annoying.

Why waste time? If you have to wonder on why your argument got down voted, there is likely a problem.

This is true to a point. Although I do think it would be nice and in the spirit of debate that you dispute an argument if your going to be allowed to vote on it, it's not that I care about up or down-voting at all, I'd like to hash things out sometimes. The argument is what I'm here for, not the points.

To all CD members,

I look forward to any and all of your enhancement requests. Please understand we have made a number of changes in the recent months based upon the request of the users of this site. Of course, we have not made every change requested.

Let's rally to see what great ideas people have to make this site even better. I will respond to each request with a yes, maybe or no. But, I will always give a rationale as to why.

Also, it is critical to understand is that I am funding this entirely out of my own pocket and will do what I can, but there are certainly limits.

Here is to a long list of great enhancements!

Best Regards,

Andy

That's fair and quite a progressive way of working a website.

Allow images to be embedded in posts.

(Somebody else came up with this idea a while back... not trying to claim credit for it.)

Dear Peekaboo, we are evaluating the graphics subsystem right now. We are looking at enhancing graphics, links and video in debates and arguments.

Andy

Yay for improvement! Sorry that I don't have anything to suggest, just thought I should show some support. Also maybe reserve a place in case I do think of something?
