Conflating Communism with Stalinism is one of the favourite fallacies of the far right. Yes, the right has absolutely no idea what communism is and even I was deceived by the propaganda. Just so you know, this is actually a true story, my cousin is obsessed with Stalin lately. It's difficult to get through to him with his mother telling him lies about communism and with the Soviet propaganda he is consuming on the internet. On the one hand he listens to me, but he also knows that I am almost a communist myself and between the propaganda from the internet and his mother constantly berating him he has developed a rebellion complex and become very confused. He wants to hold onto his Stalinist phase to go against his mother and when he hears me talk about it he just refers to the propaganda and says "but see, Stalin agrees with you".
