Not believing in the afterlife is sad

"there are no atheists in foxholes"

If you were in war and you were in a hole you dug in the ground, and your squad is dead, and youre alive, with the enemy circled in and closing in on you, you just say: well this is the day i die?

I think its extremely sad and disheartening to not believe in the after life.

Of course, all of us would like some miraculous citadel of eternal sybaritic excess. But the cold hard fact is that there simply is no proof of it. And to me, it is even sadder for one to indoctrinate themselves into blindly believing in the afterlife for all their lives, not once considering the very high possibility that there is no gold at the end of the rainbow for them.

Wow... that sounded morbid ;)

Oh yeah it is very sad. It could be lot better if when you die, you can convince yourself saying " I'll get another chance ! ".

Seriously, who in their right mind would not want there to be an afterlife? Whatever that after life may be; enlightenment, streets of gold, some planet called "whatever", alternate universe, all of the above.

People are naturally afraid of dying, at least I know I am and I am a believer in the afterlife! It's natural to want to be alive, for some though they want to be dead and I do not envy them.

I'd rather the death of me be the beginning and not the end all.

Well I'm glad you feel that way, but we all do want to believe in an afterlife. It's just that the current 'proof' for an afterlife is less than pleasing. But other than that, we are all just animals. And animals don't really have an afterlife do they? Some animals can't even understand what life is. And what use would our evolved body parts be? In an afterlife, you wouldn't need anything that usually helps you survive in the physical world. The apes we are related to; what would happen to them?

Side: Not really

well i think animals are pretty spiritual beings, i think animals go to the afterlife just like we do, my version of the afterlife is its just the continuation of life, where death is the process that we leave our body permanently, because we can have out of body experiences, but these are not permanent.

I believe we die, go to the afterlife, rest, reflect, learn about what we learned, and then choose a new path in life when we are ready to go back to a physical experience.

I believe we die, go to the afterlife, rest, reflect, learn about what we learned, and then choose a new path in life when we are ready to go back to a physical experience.

But concerning our relative primates, how can they consciously 'rest, reflect, learn and choose a path in life? Is full advantage over the afterlife just restricted to humans?

Why ?

Not dying is the plan, not that dying is all that bad- but, with research... anything is possible (my favourite theory).

It's very sad so many are incapable of accepting the truth that there is nothing after death. You die, that's it, the end, for you, forever.

Life is not a video game you can save any time and load later when you fuck something up, and then try again. That's not reality. In reality you only got one chance at life. Science and technology could one day change all that but it would be very far from now.

it is not in the nature of society to say this argument. I for one want to see proof that there is a god, and if you say a babys smile im gonna kick you right in the stomach. Smiling is not caused by the happiness and love of god, but by different muscles in the face caused by EVOLUTION! You're only proof that there is a god is a book from 2000 years ago written by people who thought the sun was magic. So if you think that not believing in the afterlife is sad, it should be sad that people out there are dieying from dieseases because they don't want to go to the doctor because thy think god will save them. i used to be a believer in the after life, but as i rounded up the facts, athiaests have a ton , and the only proof you have is crazy people who get "stigmata", but is probably just people cutting themsleves to get famous. Everysingle person who has recieved this "stigmata" has been made famous by the media around the world. We have science, which was caused by evolution through the years of the planet and universe growing.

woah dude, i said an after life, not a god, theres a huge difference

were just energy, our energy has to go somewhere when we die, energy cant be created or destroyed, thats my proof of an afterlife, we have no clue what the afterlife will be like, if there is one, can you imagine being pure concious energy? me either, but im sure i have a clue

and how do you know we arent going to evolve into interdimensional beings?

I like that feelingtruth, how if energy cannot be created or destroyed, there must be an afterlife of some sort, the what of the afterlife is the question.
