Obama is Worse than Bush, Says Chomsky

Side Score: 7

Well, I think he justified his position quite well, but notice the intial qualifiction, i.e. "in many ways he's worse"

Side: Chomsky's Right

I feel you misinterpreted what Chomsky was saying, you either did deliberately or accidentally, what he said was on some policies Obama is even worse than Bush (i.e. more hawkish, like drones and assassinations). Remember Obama has continued on the legacy of Bush, I think this belief that Obama is undoing what Bush did is a lie. The american government is slowly heading towards facism, and Obama may well be the man (with two faces) that takes it there, i.e.

This effectively gives the government the power to lock up indefinitely any US citizen suspected of wrong doing, without charge.

I believe that this is like a crap shoot. There was a recent poll that indicated Obama's approval rating was lower than Jimmy Carter's was. That says a lot. However, the indication now is he would beat any of the Republican candidates. My thought is this.......you can't use a past President's performance to rate the current one because every administration runs differently and confronts different situations. Obama didn't have to go through 9/11 as Bush did. How would he have handled that situation. Its like Reagan was given credit for the end of communism in Russia and the fall of the Berlin wall. Although directly he was involved, it was Nixon's foreign policies that paved the way for those things to happen. No matter who is President there is gonna be those who oppose his policies and those who favor them. My personal opinion is Obama has not done a very good job. In all the years I have watched the Presidents come and go, there is one thing that sticks out to me. I have never seen so many members of the same party oppose the President and reject his policies than in this administration. It started with Obama care and has continued for 3 years to the rejection of the Keystone Pipeline. The President has been on more than 20 vacations since being in office......I think he needs to take a permanent one.

Everything is going according to plan. The whole goal is to lead the world to another great war because that's to our benefit. We get to nuke anyone who we don't like and then we clean up/take over once we're done.. ;)

On foreign policy I don't really see how Obama is WORSE, considering that most of the bad stuff that Bush did Obama is either continuing or is limiting.

Obama is slightly better, only for the sake of almost ending the war in Iraq and not going ahead with attacking Iran.

Obama did the whole Libya thing, which sucks, but I don't think it's enough to say that he's worse.

Now, he's worse in many other ways (including lying about fixing Bush's foreign policy), but that is not the point that Chomsky was making, so I can't say that he was right.

For the most part I agree, but I think he is worse when it comes to the UAV/Drone attacks in Pakistan and Yemen. Which makes his Peace Prize hard to justify even for an ardent Obama supporter.

Well, better drone strikes than war...

---------------------------------------------------------------

But I think Hitchens said it best when he said that giving Obama the Peace Prize was like giving someone an Oscar in the hopes that they would one day make a great movie. But he has ended the war in Iraq. We will be out of Afghanistan by 2013. It's an overall clear improvement over his war-mongering counterpart.

"but that is not the point that Chomsky was making,"

The title of the debate is fundamentally flawed, chomsky said he's worse in many ways, and then when on to justify what those ways were.

I disagree, I dont want to write out the full extent of my reasoning because i am tired and am about to get off work so I will just disagree without stating why :)

Side: Chomsky's Wrong

I'd disagree that he's worse, but he's definitely not amazing. I support him as the best of the worst, but I don't like a lot of the things he's done. In some regards, he's just as bad as Bush, but he does have some areas where I feel he's better, and Bush doesn't have that.

Side: Chomsky's Wrong

President Obama is better than President Bush. The economy is getting better and Obama is doing his best to take care of the two wars that he inherited.
