CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.

If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.
Yes, it was right because it will actually help Scout learn faster than the other kids. Plus the fact that teachers don't really have the right to tell you exactly what you can and can't do at home.
Atticus is a father, and shouldn't a father be able to teach his daughter how to read?Fathers should be close to there children. Reading and teaching is a good way for fathers and daughters to get to know each other better.
yes because f* rules no one should tell a kid not to read because the kids should get as much education in so they dont end up like roach living on a boat on a teacher salery
Learning things at an early age is better and easier than doing so at a later age. Mrs. Caroline's teaching method will only make Scout's reading skill and abilities harder and more difficult to maintain. Atticus is taking advantage of her learning potential, ethical or not ethical he is morally doing the right thing.
Atticus should read to scout, the teacher should not try to dumb her down (which it seemed like she was doing) if she wants to teach her the way she wants then she can, but she has no right to tell her to not do innocent things in her free time
Hypothetically speaking i think that every parent should be allowed to teach their children because if they had a hard time in school and doesn't learn the way the teacher teaches then by teaching Scout out of school means that Atticus has the right away.
i support beacuse this petson is trying to teach and if the parents are teaching them at home who are they suppose to beleive is teaching the right thing
Making a child not read for teaching reasons is the most ironic and WACKY thing I've ever heard, she should read because like Tai Lopez once said, "KNOWLEDGE". Now good by Dig Diggity Dogs, if you disagree with this I will have to assume you are mentally disabled, bless Harambe.
