Paper or plastic?

I ask for paper bags, not plastic, at the grocery store. These days, you do have to ask. The default option is plastic.

Even after I ask for a paper bag, the bagger will often put the paper sacks inside of plastic ones when I'm not paying attention. They seem not to get the concept of paper INSTEAD of plastic.

Its my fault. I need to remember to bring my cloth shopping bags to the store. Let them try to put them into a plastic bag!

BRING YOUR OWN REUSABLE BAG! If you forget a reusable bag, then only get what you need and carry it out. THERE IS NO REASON TO USE A PLASTIC, or even paper, BAG.

Ikea has the right idea. Charge for plastic to deter the use of plastic.

It's not difficult, you are not incompetent.

I am not incompetent. Just forgetful.

I always get only what I need, but its often a weeks supply of food. I think what you are suggesting is that I get only what I need immediately. However, the environmental impact of having to drive back to the store obviates any advantage of not getting any bag at all.

Some municipalities are now outlawing plastic bags altogether. Too much of a negative impact on the landfills.

Except for a bus ride when biking was not a reasonable option, and trips with friends in their car, riding a bicycle was my voluntary choice for the sole source of transportation for 2-3 years. I had pannier packs from and rear. I took them into the store and had my groceries packed in them. Some of the baggers were kind of confused at this request.

I remember riding home from a store with a big fig tree strapped to the back bike rack. I got some funny looks from the motorists along the way. Kinda made me want to decorate it with x-mas lights and tool around town.

Did you know you can get a ticket for "driving" drunk while riding a bicycle? Not that its ever happened to me. I never got caught!

Seattle gets lots of rain for much of the year. I had gore-tex rain pants, jacket, helmet liner, gloves and boots. I looked like a freak when going into the shops like that. No matter. I never dress to impress anyways.

In any case, I think I've built up enough credit to let the bag thing slide by. That's my guilt-free rationalization about the topic.

i think that paper bags should be used for most shopping trips to the mall, etc, as when buying clothes and light weight food then atleast you will be saving energy and only when your doing heavy shopping that you thinkk the paper bag might rip should you be able top use the plastic bags freely for shopping at high rated supermarkets sucha as..............

a. Tesco

b. Sainsburys etc etc , also u will be saving the the environement and the planet etc, as u are using recycble materials, and i think finally u can us plastic bags if u don't feel comfortable with the paper bags u may use them but take them with always or on ur first shop buy one or two of those big bags and always use them instead it will be easier and u will be doing ur share of the environemental help, thanks.

I chose metal, I'm going to start carrying around metal bags, why? because nobody has done it before..well...they may have but I don't care lol.

I'm for paper bags!

First of all, they have less time for recycling in comparison with plastic bags.

Secondly, producing of paper bags is "safety" for our nature. Paper bags made of previously-used papers, not from "fresh trees". It is again prove that this bags are better.

Thirdly, the process of refreshing and remaking paper for paper bags are faster and easier.

At the fourth, using paper bags better for our nature.

And to conclude, if you are still using plastic bags look for some "natural places" which used as rubbish bin for plastics. For example, Atacama desert in Chile. For several years it used as rubbish bin for plastic...

Also, for utilization of plastic bags you need to waste a lot of energy resources, which is now very expensive and important...

Side: Paper bags

Paper, they are actually cheaper in the bid scheme of things.

1 plastic bag is cheaper than 1 paper bag.

However, 4-6 plasic bags are more expensive than 2 paper bags and those 2 paper bags can hold more items.

Paper is much stronger and environmentally greener, if you care, I don't.

Kroger and Whole foods use recycled paper which does no require further damage to

trees.

Plastic damages the environment and requires oil in order to be made. More people are inclined to reuse paper bags for some sort of purpose like gift rap, garbage bag, or bookcover, ect. Plastic bags get thrown away and outside. Just look around!

In our country, you don't have to ask for plastic, it is mandatory regulation that you bring your own reusable or paper bag. If you don't bring, you are oblige to pay for additional charges of the plastic bag if you want, otherwise you bring the grocery items hand carry. This is what our government promotes green ideas, not to mention, along with this they also promotes converting waste to energy as a source of natural gases.

I think that paper bags should always be used for all purposes. Whenever you buy something you should always carry that in a paper bag and not plastic as paper can be recycled whereas plastic is cannot be recycled.

I prefer paper bags because they seem stronger to me and not as flimsy as plastic bags.

Plastic bags are easier to use and very efficient to make and sell but does nobody see the harm it's doing to the planet? The landfills are running out of space and that means we need to expand to the mainland or nearer to the cities. As plastic isn't an easy decomposer and it's being mass-produced by companies, the plastic waste will keep getting more and more and it'll make the air toxic by releasing a lot of harmful gases. I get that paper bags need a lot of trees to be cut, but we can always plant new trees, but we can never destroy plastic. The world will be overflowing with plastic a few years from now and plastic will be all over the roads and around our houses and it'll stink. The animals will also not identify what it is and eat it. It is really bad for them. It gets stuck in their system and they die. Beef, chicken, and fish lovers will also face a bad situation . If these animals eat the toxic waste and then a human eats that animal, they'll also get infected. So you see, not only is plastic bad for the environment it is bad for us and I mean REALLY BAD for us

If you want there to be an earth 100 years from now, you have to do your part and use recycled materials or things that help the earth.

I really couldn't give a damn if I got paper or plastic. I would opt for plastic, however, because I often walk to the super market and find plastic bags easier to grasp.

Plastic, once you go oil byproduct, you never go back to wood byproduct.

Using paper bags causes harm to the nature.paper is made from trees. Many trees are cut to be made into paper. So,i support plastic bags which are environment friendly

Side: Plastic bags

The point that you expressed is definitely good.

I would like to add something.

First of all, huge amount of trees are cut in order to make paper, paper bags and other things.

It is important to mention that trees are non-renewable natural resource.

There are about 14 million trees that are cut down across the world for paper production. This disrupts the habitats of animals, and the destruction has further consequences for the Earth's well-being.

Besides, in order to make paper, it is necessary to convert wood into cellulose. Therefore, it takes about 3 tons of wood chips to get one ton of pulp. To my mind it is too large and unnecessary costs to make the package and then just simply throw it.

Moreover, according to the Washington Post newspaper website, paper bags also take up much more room in landfill sites, with 2,000 paper bags weighing 280 pounds, compared to the same number of plastic bags accounting for 30 pounds.

However, I not going to say that ordinary plastic bags are better.

There is an alternative to paper and plastic bags, which us biogenerable plastic bag.

This plastic is able entirely to decompose in the soil and it is not produced from petroleum products, but often it is produced from vegetable raw materials, such as cornstarch.

Side: Plastic bags
1 point

Yes, traditional petroleum-based plastics may not be as environmentally friendly as organic paper, but manufacturers can produce many more plastic bags for the same amount of expended energy. When factories are able to work more efficiently, the environment benefits as well. It takes fewer natural resources such as coal and gas to produce plastic bags in bulk, compared to the more labor-intensive manufacturing required to produce paper bags.

trees are cut plentifully to make paper bags. But they can always be planted again But once the plastic is made it cannot be destroyed. the human race doesn't even use plastic properly, they just use it and throw it wherever they like and it pollutes the environment

Side: Paper bags

They should probably come up with some alternative already but paper is not that! cuz when it rains, your bag falls apart and all your groceries or new t-shirts are on the road. How nice is that, my ecofriends?

Side: Plastic bags

As long as the plastic is recyclable, then plastic. Plastic is water proof, and stronger.

Side: Plastic bags

I use to think this way too but then I realized that no matter if you ask for paper its not going to have effect on them, not creating more, same as writing paper. It would take a lot of convincing to get everybody to buy the Eco friendly products. So if someones buy a plastic bag, the companies are still going to make them. So It would seem that its waisting plastic because there already made and your using something else.

You’ll also want to consider the type of feeder you need. Hummingbird feeders can either be open or closed, and if you’re looking for a feeder that will protect the nectar from the weather, you’ll want to opt for a closed feeder. https://hummingbirdfeedercenter.com/best-heated-hummingbird-feeder/
