Pence and Hamiliton - A grand performance or unnecessary censure?

Recently Vice President-elect Mike Pence went accompanied with his family to see the renowned play Hamilton. However, if he thought he could escape from the political world and into the theatrical, his supposition was mistaken.

The cast of Hamilton, headed by Brandon Victor Dixon delivered this rather unusual epilogue:

“Vice President-elect Pence we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us here at Hamilton, an American Musical. We really do. We sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, out children, our parents or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us. All of us. We truly thank you for sharing in this show, this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men, women of different colors, creeds and orientations and we truly hope that you heard our message sir, because you all represent all of us."

This is also coupled with the fact that prior to the show commencing, Pence received a hostile reception upon entering, with boos sounding from the crowd.

Whether you're a fan of Hamilton or not, what is your view: do you believe the cast were right to voice their disquiet to the future vice president , or was it an inappropriate decision to subject him to this?

The cast of Hamilton asked the audience to stop booing. They didn't say anything bad about Pence. The Hamilton cast did nothing wrong.

Do you not think they could have voiced their concerns outside a venue which is supposed to be for entertainment? Should politics really be brought into the theatre?

If they had voiced their concerns "outside" of that venue, it wouldn't have been half as effective or news worthy.

Politics have been brought up in theaters since Lincoln's time. (Actually since Roman times.)

I think it was an exceptional example of HOW to use the First Amendment, respectfully. Far more respectful than HIS political running mate AND many of THEIR followers have been the last few months. They treated Mr. Pence with great respect.

I felt Mr. Pence treated them with great respect by refusing to attack them. He was out to enjoy a performance with his family and such behaviour would no doubt have spoiled that. In my view it was rather disrespectful given the context. And how have Trump's supporters been disrespectful?

It seems pretty clear that dude was like part of the theatrical/ritual aspect of the show .. Kinda like the volunteer for the magician to hypnotise, but more elaborate and perhaps more empowered by receiving justification to continually challenge the anti-hero he is tasked to foil ..

The last thing the audience came to see and hear was another liberal Hollywood loon spew forth standard, canned liberal talking points. Seriously, why do these types think their half-baked opinions matter and that people want to hear them?

Is that why you speak. You only speak because you think your opinion matters and people want to hear it?

This forum is about opinions and sharing ideas, the play was not; it's a completely different venue. There are no parallels.
