People are stupid.
whether you like to admit it or not, everyone is pretty damn stupid with the decisions they make. no one, not even myself, is above that, and it's time someone pointed it out. Whether it's acting stupid, or saying something stupid, or making stupid decisions, people are just plain stupid at one point or another in their life. Yes, people are intelligent, but even the smart people make the stupidest choices sometimes.

People as a race are stupid. And we are kept stupid by the leaders so we can be better controlled. There is practically no achievement for the human race. We didn't stop pollution, wars, famine, genocides. It is the individuals who make a difference. The individuals who are geniuses or not. The individuals who will get up and drag the rabble after them. Side: Yes.

We learned to speak to one another We built tools We created fire We passed knowledge from generation to generation We learned to read and write We built towns We built cities We made ships We conquered the world We used electricity We made cars We learned how to fly We made radios and T.V.s We went to space Today, I can communicate with someone from across the world through the internet without even leaving my bed. That seems pretty smart considering our origins. Side: No.
all depends on your definition of stupid. we may do what most will accept as stupid things, but that doesn't make us stupid. we are the only people who have the ability to understand everything (at least, so far as we understand). And we actually have the ability to realize when we can not understand something. We are the people who are able to figure shit out, how to survive something. We study the behaviors of others (and animals) so that we can further understand things. Yeah, we do stupid things (no one's perfect), but people in general are probably the most fascinating and intelligent creatures (that we know of). Side: No.

I absolutely detest the word stupid. I find it harsh and unnecessary. Even though it's synonymous, I much prefer the word foolish. Joe's argument speaks of Customer Service, which is also a pet peeve of mine. In today's world there is hardly any left. Here and there you get one who knows what you're talking about and can make an on the spot decision without putting you on hold 6 times. I call this type of person GOLDEN but I call the other people untrained and unsuited for their jobs. But under my breath you can also hear me say other things too like, "You dumb Fuck!" or "What a nasty bitch this one is!" or "Oh God, she doesn't know shit about this!" I just never call them stupid! We all do foolish things, no matter how intelligent we are. No one is perfect but you sure know the difference when someone is trying or when they just don't care enough to know. I call them "Useless as tits on a bull." In all seriousness, however, stupid is so very insulting that it bothers me when I hear someone say that to anyone else. There are other words that can be used...and if ya weren't so friggin' stupid, you'd know what they are! LOL! Side: No.
The problem is a complete lack of comparison. No other animal has even a percent of the capacity that our large efficient brains allow us. It could though very well be we run into some race of alien with similar size brains and who emerged from whatever primordial alien ooze and began evolving at about the same time, who make us look really dumb. But in the meantime we have to assume we're pretty bright considering how far we've come in a relative-to-the-earth's age, short time. (Dinosaurs were around for millions and millions of years, and never even figured out fire as far as we know; modern man's been around 150,000 - 300,000 years in comparison.) We have some natural instincts working against us though. 1. Self preservation is stronger than group instinct. The insect kingdom doesn't have this problem, and even with their small brains, they have been, and very well could be around a lot longer than us. 2. Panic. In the "costumer service" example sited on the other side, generally one is working with people in a completely new situation. On a small scale, the human mind in many cases like this switch to survival mode, ignoring small details, and overly focused on survival, giving the appearance to the lady behind the car rental counter, that this guy is in fact a complete idiot, when really he just doesn't want to die... 3. Mob Mentality. The dumbest voice is almost always the loudest, and the majority of people, given no other option, will go along with the loudest voice. Almost all of our "dumb" moments historically (burning people who say the Earth's round, electing an idiot to office twice, etc.) come precisely when people aren't using their brains, but their instincts, which react to things like fear, and a need to keep the world around them the same. All that said, there are certainly some people who go their entire lives without ever even bothering to use their brains, who go from moment to moment depending 100% on instinct, and whatever small tid-bits of knowledge whether correct or false, they had accidently absorbed while living moment to moment. They can be seen on programs like "Flava of Love" and "Jerry Springer." I don't believe they represent the human race as a whole though. At least I hope not... Side: No.

Depends on what you look at as stupid! I think that if everyone does this then I don't really think it is stupidity, I mean if we don't make mistakes how are we going to learn? IF someone explains this to me then I'll will understand. In the meantime, I trully and honestly don't think it is stupidity! Side: No.
