Plastic bags are everywhere in our environment. When we go to purchase our groceries, we use plastic bags because they are convenient. In fact, in our modern lives, it has become part of us. However, the convenience of these plastic bags come at a very high cost to the environment and negatively affects human health. Several cities globally have begun banning the use of plastic bags while some have enforced restricted laws against the use of plastic bags because of the negative effects of the use of their usage.

I disagree with you because, It is durable, low cost, water resistant, lesser energy and heavy chemicals requirements in manufacture and are light weight. Many studies comparing plastic versus paper for shopping bags show that plastic bags have less net environmental effect than paper bags, requiring less energy to produce, transport and recycle; however these studies also note that recycling rates for plastic are significantly lower than for paper.Plastic carrier bags can be reused as trash bags or bin bags. Also, plastic bags are complimentary in many locations but are charged or "taxed" in others.

Plastic products are well on the way to causing a major environmental disaster.

Most plastics are not only non-biodegradable but are virtually indestructible.

Plastic fishing paraphernalia such as nets and floats are taking a terrible toll on aquatic life throughout the world causing fish and marine mammals to die painful and lingering deaths.

Sooner or later the governments of the world will be forced to embark on a massive, eye-wateringly expensive global clean up of plastic waste on land and sea.

We have absolutely no right to willfully poison the oceans and continents of the world and render them uninhabitable to an ever growing list of species.

I feel we should appoint of an international body such as the United Nations/World Health Organization to draw up a strategy to outlaw the manufacture and/or use of this destructive material and be given the teeth to impose the appropriate penalties on any offending parties.

STOP THE GRANDIOSE POSTURING AND OBAMA STYLE SPEECH MAKING AND, ''START THE PROCESS OF RIDDING THE WORLD OF PLASTIC''.

@Antrim

isn't it amusing how, on the rare occasion such as this when you say something that isn't retarded or nazi-like, no one upvotes you? When you get 4 upvotes everytime you say something racist or capitalisticly greedy and selfish.

Hey, it's early days yet, some kind hearted environmentalist might donate an up vote at some stage.

If you agree with my opinion on this issue you shouldn't permit your animosity against me to stop you giving the post a thumbs up.

Also, have you never considered that it may just be possible that the viewpoints I publish may not necessarily represent my true beliefs?

''Never judge a book by its cover'', especially on the internet.

This is the anniversary of D DAY.

My father joined the R.A.F., the day after war was declared on Germany and along with my only uncle, was highly decorated for outstanding bravery against Nazi Germany.

Check out a sort of book, not a literary masterpiece, but a genuine account of a horrendous period in history written by the people who lived and fought for freedom'

It's entitled, 'Rendezvous 127'.
