Private Schools vs Public School

When I was a kid, the teachers would send home letters with spelling errors pretty consistently. Also, they had to cram multiple grade levels in the same room because the school wasn't really large enough.

Chicago public schools are a joke. I had to get my own education at the library.

I had the desire to learn at a very young age. I'm grateful for libraries.

@TarPepe

I'm grateful for libraries.

The Public Library system is amongst one of the most honorable, notable accomplishments of the Government (in my view)

So instead you want to put more financial stress on poor families? It can cost tens of thousands of dollars to get into the school, buy uniforms, and pay for other things. I'd rather have my children get less education without going broke than go broke paying for private schools.

Of course not.

I would have never been able to go to a private school.

At least you can learn to read and do math at school.. Though, that is even debatable, because most of the kids in my high school didn't seem to know how to read....

But for some reason libs keep sending their kids to get brainwashed by liberal nutjobs, get loaded with student loans, and get useless degrees.

I agree with Tzar, and would in fact expand to the Public School system generally. Given the current constraints, the "library" (library in the broader context as meaning "independent study") will always be the superior path unless & until the current system is fundamentally challenged (which seems overwhelmingly unlikely in the short-term, at least)

I agree with Tzar

You and Tzar both need to understand that not performing well in school is your failure, not education's failure.

Given the current constraints, the "library" (library in the broader context as meaning "independent study") will always be the superior path.

Although it may comfort you to believe this given your non-existent academic record of achievement, it is not in any way true. Books are a great method of learning, yes, but without someone there to correct your mistakes, simplify and/or break things down for you, your progress is going to be slow and riddled with misunderstanding. It is strange that you even specify public libraries as sources of education in the first place, since the majority of books in public libraries are fiction. A university library is significantly more likely to help with one's education than a public library. I know from personal experience as a child that my public library stocked books about telekinesis and the writings of Abra Melin the (self-purported) mage.

When you have failed in education, I imagine that it can be tempting to blame education rather than personal, internal problems which you might have with learning. Nobody wants to feel like they are stupid. I believe this attitude unfortunately comes from politics and political advertising. Certain political parties and ideologies benefit greatly from stroking the egos of the uneducated.

Private schools have always performed better at teaching our children.

The Democrat Party refuses to allow school choice. School choice would help poorer families get out of these failing public schools. School choice would create competition which is always good for improving cost and results.

People who send their kids to private schools have to pay school taxes for the public schools as well as high tuitions for private schools.

IT'S NOT FAIR! Parents should have a choice what schools to spend their school taxes on.

There is one reason why the Left has always fought against school choice. They want to funnel all children into their public schools, where they can be properly indoctrinated into the political correct way of thinking.

This is somewhat orthogonal to the point you were making, but nonetheless I deem it worth mentioning:

In the Public School system, there is a bit of choice. That is, you can't choose your district, however;

(A) School Boards have pull in the curriculum & agenda

(B) College-in High School Option

(C) Vocational School Option

There is always Homeschooling as well

I don't know where you live, but in our school system, they had a Gay awareness day at school. They brought in Homosexual speakers who addressed our children in the auditorium.

They were going to do it behind the parents backs, but when parents found out, they spoke up and were able to get their kids out of the indoctrination meetings.

This is what I am speaking to when I say our children are being indoctrinated to the PC way of thinking in public schools. I'm fine with teaching our children to treat all people with respect, teach them not to bully anyone, but that does not mean any one group gets special mention to our children.

Keep these controversial issues out of our public schools if they are going to force us to send our kids there.

Yes, some people who do not work outside the house are capable of home schooling their children (which costs money to buy books, etc. ), but this does not lower their school taxes for the public schools.

Let me keep this simple, even for the rich and privileged...

There are many services the rich use but which the rich don't want to perform themselves. Those services are staffed by the rest of society. If you want them to understand what you say and write, charge your bill the correct amount, understand standards and safeties, and not rob you to try to feed their own kids, then you need even the less fortunate in society to have an education. That's public. That's where your public education comes into play. You can only cut the public education so far before eventually you can't drive your car, are flustered all day every day, and have to put your guard up like you're in a war zone.

The other chapter to that is in a democracy all those adult masses from the bottom half of society can legally vote, and every once in a while they're going to get their act together enough to put someone in charge you don't want there. If you educate them sufficiently then hopefully they won't give an idiot the reigns of power. (Thus, one might argue that perhaps public education in the USA has already been cut too far for too long. Just look at who is President now).
