Question For White People....
Is being called a cracker insulting to you? I guess it's meant to be an insult but it doesn't really bother me... What about you?
Well that is a difficult question to answer , seeing how I have European and Native blood lines. IF a person calls me a "cracker" This means they are ignorant of my ethnic back ground and are judging me by what I appear to be. I can think of worse words than Cracker and it depends on the tone and emotion they put into it.. Koda answers with out Humor for once LOL 3

I personally think that it is silly when I hear someone call me a cracker , i mean a cracker is a cracker , something that you eat . Put cheese or Peanut Butter on em but don't waste your breath calling me one unless you wanna see me giggle (: && cracker is a particular funny word ; say it 5 times fast :D just like 'HONKY' , that's a funny one too (: Depends on the context...like anything else...at this point, more of a compliment. 2

I'm "white" and I've never been insulted by it. Most people think cracker literally has to do with the bland white coloring of saltine crackers, but it actually refers to cracking a whip. Therefore, the white person in question is being called a master, or whip cracker. I do not want to be referred to as a master or someone who approves of anything slavery related. However, since most people think it simply refers to saltines, I'm fine with it. Those things are delicious. 1

Nigger comes from the words negro and niger (Spanish/Portuguese and Latin), meaning black. It was originally used as a neutral word to refer dark people from places such as India or Africa. It was not originally an insult, but it was later used as one. I had no idea Irish were ever referred to as niggers, until you mentioned it. I just looked it up and saw an article mentioning how Irish settlers coming to America were called "white niggers" or "Irish niggers" and considered to be below anyone with dark skin. 1
