Reasons for bearing arms (Per Our Founders)

Why do citizens need guns?
https://www.thefederalistpapers.org/history/the-founding-fathers-on-the-second-amendment

Further, our founders knew that armed citizens deter crime.

The supposed quietude of a good man allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The balance of power is the scale of peace. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside. And while a single nation refuses to lay them down, it is proper that all should keep them up. Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them.” – Thoughts on Defensive War, 1775;

I don't agree with the bearing of arms and this statement drives a fair amount of Americans mad because they see it as a right , I guess it's a cultural thing if one is brought up thinking this way why should one feel any different ?

I'm from a society where our citizens do not on the whole possess or wist to possess a gun are we any worse off than America ?

Would the introduction of guns for the majority make our society better ?

I've always thought that the wording of the constitution was to allow a militia to bear arms in defence of the people and not a right of the ordinary citizen to bear arms ?
