Religion is idiotic?

The same could be said of politics and those who engage in it. But that wouldn't help us make any good progress. In order for critical thinking about religion to get some traction people need to stop overgeneralizing so much.

Remember the quote "those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being ruled by those dumber than them." ?

If you are bright enough to see how politics and religion and for that matter ideologies are inseparably related, you will realize that the outright condemnation of religion is idiotic.

Smarter to criticize objectionable aspects of religion and honor what you think honorable, than trying to pretend religion itself can be done away with.

Let's take a non-biased athiest approach to this

If religion was idiotic it wouldn't have been able to control the masses for the thousands of years it has.

It wouldn't have been able to cause war for differences in beliefs when it was actually for resources and land

It wouldn't have been able to kill millions of people for their ethnicities

It wouldn't have been able to convince millions on something they can't touch, see or hear, but can only feel - in their heads.

Thus concluding (as a non-biased athiest) that religion is actually extremely fucking smart.

I'm not big on religion. I think that they are hypocritical and immoral most of the time. I mean priest who molest little kids, what has come over this world? That or how they want everyone to believe exactly what they do, and if you don't they hate you and want to see you burn in hell. And the whole thing that "I just killed a bunch of people, but now I'm sorry." Does not make you a good person. That doesn't make what you did go away. Or the people you hurt and the suffering you have caused for the families go away.

And yes I see how ppl may think religion is idiotic, I think for the most part it fulfills a purpose. Yes there are killers who think that b/c the confessed everything is fine and dandy now. Or priest who think that it is okay to molest little babies, but not everyone who is religious is like that. I think for the most part they aren't like that, but we as a group focus on the bad. We as a community only see the worse in people and see how much suffering and damage that they have caused.

All in all I think it keeps a lot of people sane if they don't over think it. I think that a lot o f the times ppl go off the deep end is because they are forced into it. People are forcing to much religion on them. Like the fact that they need to believe in everything that they think is "right" as well as trying to recruit as many others as you can. But I think that if you have control and freedom in what you believe, religion can be a very comforting thing. It can give ppl hope and security. It can make loners feel that someone is always with them and they are always being supported. It can make depressed ppl feel that they have someone to turn to no matter what happens. It lets some feel like they have control of their lives or feel that someone they fully trust and that no matter what happens that "thing" they believe in will never let them down and therefore their lives will be okay.

Well, it does keep a good majority of people in place.

It is great for mind control.

It is also used as a secondary rule of law whereas it makes you feel guilty before you do the act.

Absolutely false. Even if one does not believe in a certain faith, the social applications of faith are limitless. Those belonging to a faith are generally happier people and many of society's values are determined by what people believe or do not believe. Do I think that legislated religions is idiotic? Sure. Do I believe in the PROTECTION of the right to belong to a faith? Yes. Do I believe that those who believe in a higher being are stupid? Absolutely not. Einstein ring a bell? To say all religion is idiotic is just like clinging to any extreme- false and dangerous.

Do you care what happens when you die? I do and so do many others. Religion is in the business of caring now what happens later. Believing in a successful, popular God is probably for the best. To people who have lives of hardship religion can seem like an escape and if let down abandon all hope for it but as for terrorism, people who say they do it for god/Allah are lying because god does not want us to kill or create suffering for others, religion in its self is a way that can strengthen the body and mind and people feel better knowing that if they live there lives by god they will go to a happy place or be reincarnated, to some people they see this as unnecessary and pointless but is it really? Is being a good person bad? obviously not, so i ask if religion inspires people to do good how is it idiotic.

me myself a daughter of a religious person know that religion is not fake by all the religions that exist in this world people think that if there religion they believe in is actually is true they'd get a higher status in this world and speaking of status is it not god that put us in these positions poor and rich so if religion were to be idiotic aren't you and idiot yourself that your saying religion is idiotic because you think religion is idiotic and now your discussing that is religion idiotic so your surely believing in religiion but you think its and idiot the idiot your calling is god, god is religion, who arranged your body like this, religion, who seperated land from water religion did who seperated humans from savage animals for the humans safety reilgion did, so if you'r saying religion is an idiot you must be and idiot too.

If you believe in something, then believe. I don't believe it makes you an idiot to believe in something that cannot be proven. To some people their religion fulfills them and makes them happy. We all want happiness and fulfillment in our lives so someone who has achieved that is not an idiot.

Sure don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people that use their religion to do malicious deeds, but the many good ones shouldn't be judged based on the wrongdoings of the few.
