"Religious Freedom"....Is It a Subterfuge?

Subterfuge implies a bit more rational intelligence and intent than I think is present in most of the people who use the phrase "religious freedom", but its usage in contemporary politics is quite certainly a deliberate act of subterfuge by conservative organizers. It creates a persecution complex that supports baseless defensiveness and antagonism at a time when the undue influence of religion on public policy and personal liberties has increasingly been called into question.

I would even suggest the possibility that homosexuality is something of an incidental target of this tactic. The larger issue at stake for religious organizations and leaders is their diminished credibility and influence on public policy, due to the gradual but persistent encroachment of increasingly actualized secularism.
