Religious people should use a different word for marriage.
Gays refused to accept the words, "Civil Union," and fought for the word, "Marriage."
The government could have allowed religion to have a monopoly on the word, "Marriage," while they themselves used the words, "Civil Union" exclusively for every union (in order to differentiate between a religious marriage and a state sanctioned marriage). But they didn't.
For the longest time, it was called "Gay Marriage." So, now that the law of the land is that the word "Marriage" will be used exclusively by the government to refer to every state sanctioned union, it may be time for the religious die-hards to take matters into their own hands and stop using the word "Marriage." Perhaps they can invent some new word or they can always fall back on the words "Religious Marriage."
Oh, wait.... I got it.... call it a "Proliferating Union." Proliferating because only a man and a woman can "naturally" proliferate and the word, "Proliferate" has the words, "Pro," "Life" and "Rate." Then they can define a "Proliferating Union" as a union between a man and a woman for the purpose of proliferating. Which makes it a Pro-Life Union, meaning that people in a "Proliferating Union" cannot have abortions (everyone else can have all the abortions they want). They can then state that all other unions do not "Rate" (meaning, they are not "real" unions).
A rose by any other name is still a rose.
NOTE: This solution will end the "Gay Marriage" debates AND the Abortion debates once and for all!!! Yay me, for coming up with the final solution!!!

While everyone else is out partying on this 4th of July, I was diligently sitting here trying to solve the world's problems.

A resounding never. Nobody has any right to alter what God instituted and marriage itself would not exist otherwise. It is an insult to demand such a sacrifice. Therefore, for the religious 'die-hards' as you call them, no compromise is needed because the definition has not changed, however the government and society at large wish to tamper with it. Marriage was, is and always will be between a man and a woman.
The bible wasn't written until hundreds of years AFTER Christ. During Christ's time they use some Hebrew word for "marriage." All you have to do is substitute the words, "Marriage" with the words, "Proliferating Union" in every bible and have the Hebrew word for "Marriage" be translated to "Proliferating Union" in every dictionary. Simple ;)
"Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease" (Jeremiah 29:6). Of course there is a word for it in Hebrew, just as there are Hebrew words for day and night. The Bible was principally written in Hebrew after all and the aforementioned verse is how it translated into English.
Right! Except now we tell the world that "Proliferating Union" is now what was formerly known as "Marriage."
So...
"Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in a Proliferating Union, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease" (Jeremiah 29:6).
Well you can use that term if you like and perhaps they will try to make such 'adjustments' with the advent of newer dictionary publications....but do not go anywhere near God's Word with them. Simple ;)
I'm just being pragmatic. If the word "Marriage" can now refer to Gay Marriage (by law) and religious people don't want to be associated with Gay Marriage, then the practical thing to do is to use a different word.
Though Hebrew is principally the language God communicated in (hence the print of the Bible), that does not indicate that He is unfamiliar with all other languages, including English. Assuming your native tongue is English that is not to say that, should you write a book in English, the conversion to another language like Spanish no longer makes it your work. It is the source that matters and if the message in a million different languages remains the same then that’s that.
In other languages, the Hebrew word for "marriage" may still mean a union between a man and a woman. However, in American English, the word "marriage" means a union between two humans, regardless of sex. This is why I suggest creating a word in, American English, that means the union between a man and a woman. Otherwise, the bible cannot be interpreted "correctly" to American English.
ISIS has a word for "Marriage" and gays aren't allowed to appropriate its usage. As a matter of fact, any gay person who attempts to use that word gets killed. Maybe you can use that word. ;)
it's true that sexual reproduction allows for faster evolution, but asexual reproduction can still evolve due to random "errors" in the duplication process.
