People are down, the Stock Market spiked again for the gun lobby! 50 people killed in Vegas, not the time to talk about guns. 5 people killed in Chicago, time to put them n....s in prison! Deport the Sp....s! The NRA rules! It's CERTAINLY more powerful than any President! The "President" of the NRA gets richer every time the gun stocks spike! HE loves it! To make America great again, we have to go back to a time of common sense. There IS none in this country today, especially in the White House. Tillerson was correct .... the President is a F*ing MORON, (leading a bunch of morons)! My NRA membership card is sitting on my desk, it expired several years ago (in the Clinton era), when I saw a very good organization begin filling the swamp with dangerous critters. Eventually, they HAVE to get stuck in their own quicksand when enough wives, daughters, sons, friends are buried. The Second WILL be modified and the longer it goes into the slaughter, the more strict it will be! What you say is correct, but, taking a short drive or even paying for "home delivery" from a few miles away sort of negates well meaning laws, don'cha think?? And then someone commits a crime with the imported goodies and a slick lawyer uses the weakness of our NATIONAL gun laws to, at the very least, get a nice reduced sentence. Nice try Chicago, but the rest of the "National" organizations won't let you protect yourself! The NRA, our National Congress, your local anti-government "posse", etc. (But they WILL pray for your dead like they prayed for Sandy Hook, For V.Tech, for Vegas, for .......)! THAT will stop the killing, eventually. At least those that "God" does not want killed. Go to church on Sunday, go to an NRA rally on Friday, contribute to your local Second Amendment supporter who waves his gun in a public venue to insure that your kids get the message that if you carry a gun in public, you are TOUGH! We "thank God" for those that survived the slaughters .... who do we thank for those who did not?? NO other (civilized) nation on Earth has so many gun deaths. I said this in the past on this debate site and I really mean it and think it's still true... The flaw in the strategy of the NRA and gun nuts is taking an all or nothing approach will eventually, at some point in history, backfire to leave them with the nothing. There is no sociopolitical issue that is so inviolable that it can never be reversed. The act of keeping a choke hold on politics and fighting against any and every kind of public safety attempt is only good until the pendulum swings to the other side. If the public reacts to the Trump/Republican monopoly harshly then thanks to this stupid two party system you may see a period in which the Democrats come back in to (temporary) dominance and that's when you could see the type of stuff you fear happening to your gun ownership really play out. It would be much smarter to pick and choose what you oppose. Indeed it would thwart the anti-gun lobby from swaying the folks in the middle. If the middle see you're trying to be reasonable then they're less likely to side with the ban it all crowd. But heck, every time something terrible happens and you get preachy and bold and defiant you just lose potential supporters. Side: Hooray, it's TRUE

I have no desire to abolish the NRA or to confiscate or ban guns. I just don't think efforts to address public safety should be automatically stonewalled. And like the automobile analogy I use, which I think is very compelling, I don't think the existence of exceptions to the rules (such as car accidents happening despite car laws) means there should be zero laws about it to start with. The flaw in the strategy of the Democrat Party and those on the Left is taking an all or nothing approach, when it comes to abortion, which will eventually, at some point in history, backfire to leave them with nothing. That was one of your more clever replies. Cheers. And to that my answers are: Is abortion under the Democrats all or nothing? I would argue no. In most of the country there is a specific window of time allowed and then not after. And in no scenarios is the surgery allowed without trained professional help, meaning you can't just perform your own surgery at home. Contrast that to guns where the all or nothing argument is have zero laws about it and let common citizens have anything and everything. Regarding the two party system and backlash I agree with you there. And if you go back and reread responses I have made to you on abortion debates I have said if the Supreme Court reversed itself on abortion then although I may not agree with it I would accept that was the new law of the land. Odds are some day they will do that. They have not yet. Now, tell me how I committed "mindless hypocrisy"? Because none of this was mindless. And the only hypocrisy would be if I said something simple like "uh, well this case is different" because then a conflict in statements would exist. But there is no conflict. Did the founding fathers have swords in mind when they wrote the second amendment? Of course they did. So how come it is illegal to carry around a sword in most of the United States? The government is already violating second amendment rights. There should be more of an outrage than there already is. Making something illegal does not make it go away. If you can afford it, you should be able to own a tank and ride around on your big old farm with it. Owning a live working tank is a completely different animal than riding through town and shooting the cannon at buildings. An armed society eventually develops a certain level of civility. Outside would be invaders are deterred because not only does the country have a trained professional army, but the people themselves are armed. There is a downside though. It means the people who want to take down the country have to use means other than violent force.
