SPEED CAMERAS

Do you think speed cameras are really effective in preventing accidents?

Or do you think they are money machines ripping people off?

Please state why.

I'm sure this is very much a regional thing. I live in New Jersey and I feel as if I have days where I'm always running all over the county, back and forth. And living in New Jersey means you will hit traffic at some point- just goes hand-in-hand with the most densely populated state. Needless to say, when I hit a stretch of road that the traffic thins out, or a highway with not-so-much traffic, I will go faster. But so will everybody else! I don't think speed cameras would differentiate with the flow of traffic. If every driver is going 80, it may not be as safe as if they were all going 70, but when there is a slow car in a zone full of fast cars, he makes it more dangerous than if they were all traveling at the same rate..... If anybody understands that. :)

Also, I think speed cameras are shady and unfair. I have a right to know when I'm being caught. ;) Regardless, this is definitely regional.

This is such a huge topic out here in southwestern Arizona. And it absolutely appalls me how much people are bitching about those cameras. Mostly because the only ones pissed at them are the ones that are pissed off they're not getting away with breaking the law. Recklessness deserves a consequence, even if it's just a $200 effin ticket.

Do they save lives? A study shows accidents decreased about um... I don't remember exactly, but at least 10%. So they do save lives, overall. And I see nothing wrong with them.

Don't break the law and you won't get a ticket/fine.

If these cameras were not out there, then people would be driving like maniacs more than ever. They would be able to do whatever they want with a low risk of being caught, thus they will. I can just imagine how many accidents would happen each day just down one busy, mainstream street.

It's not that hard to obey the law. Especially something as simple as the speed limit. It's not that hard to stay under the speed limit.

As reckless and dangerous as I am, If I can control myself not to speed, anyone can.

If you just get in the habbit of trying to obey the law, instead of trying to speed and not get caught, you can relax and enjoy life.

What if somebody was speeding to catch the light and they hit you kid and killed them?

Side: THEY ARE GOOD

They are horrible. Now you can be caught breaking the law without any witnesses!
