In Alabama, they have low-tuition private schools for white people meant specifically to keep blacks out.

Diversity is a compelling reason for this policy and can only serve to improve the long term social abilities of the students at this school. Schools shouldn't be clusters of racially or economically homogeneous students.

I'm sorry this was only meant for public schools. I understand what you're saying though.

What about the people that have lower income levels and can't afford to take the drive to the schools. I know they have buses, but if they have a parent meeting then they have no way of getting there. Does that mean that the people with higher incomes and can afford to drive the distances get to make the rules that the schools follow because they can go to PTA meetings?

No because separating students for race is racist. But separating them for financial reasons is pointless.

They don't put all blacks together and all whites together. If if an area has mainly white children or black children then they will send some of the kids to another school to make it more diverse. The do that also for economic reasons because they don't want all low income students to be at one school while other schools have high income.

It sounds to me that the school department has found a way to bring the test scores of the weaker schools up to a passing grade while bring the good schools down (yet still passing) what a perfect world! every thing is equal. The dumbing down of America.

Wayne County Public Schools, also in North Carolina, may be getting sued because of their neighborhood schools. Not intentionally, but many of their schools have racial segregation's because of the areas that people live in.

You said the County is assigning students to schools!

"Wake County Public School, North Carolina has a policy that assigns students to schools based on race and income level. Should they keep it?"

Now you say;

"but many of their schools have racial segregation's because of the areas that people live in."

So what you want is "Busing" bring the under privileged kids to the wealthy areas and the wealthy kids to the poor areas. (Boston tried it, didn't work so well)

If all the orientals choose to live in one part of town is that segregation or freedom of choice?

They already have enough hassle, what with school, homework, and all - why make it harder by forcing them to take a longer bike ride?

I'm fairly sure the government mandates that most school systems must have a comprehensive and working bus system. If a student bikes to school, students of whom do so are in the small minority, then that is their choice in almost all cases.

I am also convinced that the school board in these areas aren't going to make students take a copiously long route.

Listen, I'm not an American. I don't know anything about this other than what was written up top in the overview.

Should the schools in economically deprived areas have to suffer and not be able to go on trips and do other things because they can't afford to pay the price?
