CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.
To learn more about the CreateDebate scoring system, check out the FAQ.
When you are ready to voice your opinion, use the Add Argument button to create an argument.
If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.
This is hard. Because you really can't have Science without Math but you can have math without science. But if you don't have science for the math, the math is kind of useless.
I like Science more though so I'm going to go with science. :3
I dont want to criticise this debate but math and science are inseparable, math is the language of science, its a bit like saying which is better Inida or the Hindhi language, it makes no sense.
Engineering is the application of scientific and mathematical principles to artifice. In addition to resolving the forces acting upon, say, a bridge, an engineer must also compensate for the resonance that bridge will experience when the wind vibrates at a certain frequency.
Both are of equal importance. math underlies many scientific studies, and scientific principles are extremely important in societal development. In addition, science and math are both important in the engineering fields.
Math is the language used to communicate Science. The Science is still there, with or without Math, the question is whether it can be understood or communicated. Math, on the other hand, is a construct used to convey Scientific understanding. Without Science, Math would be useless. That is why the Nobel Prize is not offered for Math, although it is for various Scientific and Economic realms.
Moreover, the majority of the most famous Mathematicians were, in fact, Scientists. Math was created by Scientists to explain Science.
i hate maths. in my opinion, you learn enough maths in school upuntil year 8. after that, you basically learn pointless shit that, lets face it, you would NEVER need to know in real life. science, however teaches you about LIFE.
We use math in our day to day living and it will be so ungrateful for us to say "you basically learn pointless shit that, lets face it, you would NEVER need to know in real life". However you indirectly saying science is better than Math well think again, no subject or course is inferior than any other course for they all give us information that is prerequisite to our survival, in addition they are related to one another
science. seriously.. it teaches you about actual life not just pointless strategies (algebra for one, i mean seriously, who is going to use that in their life?!?!?
HA HA u use math every day and while i like science way more then math math is used way more often then sci. is even if ur teacher says that every time you take a step your testing gravity it's still not as important
You can have as many theories as you want, but if you have no data and mathematical relationships to draw from that data and apply to the real world scientific theories are useless.
1- "Come on, we only got five minutes 'till four o' clock!"
2- "We will need three more eggs for this puding..."
3- "The movie will start in half an hour."
4- "I have only one car now since I sold that old piece of junk."
5- "I still have a quarter of the gas tank. I'll keep driving for now."
6- "Can you borrow me 10 bucks? I only have 50 and it's not enough..."
7- "My filmings occupy 3 GBs, so a 4GB DVD is enough to store them."
8- "I have eaten eight cans of tuna that's why I'm indisposed."
9- "This book is 750 pages long... I already read half of it!"
10- "I got two pajamas and three pairs of socks this christmans... this sucks!"
And btw, something kids never remember, video games use math A LOT.
Science is better beacuse when are you ever going to use math to help humanity.
Here I won't give you examples, I'll rather say just one thing: Without math you wouldn't have certain fields of knowledge (sciences) that allowed the finding of most of the things we have all around. Among these things, there's medicines and cures for certain deseases, transportations, flying devices, ships, weather forecasts, and many more. Without these the hungry people, for example, wouldn't be able to receive food as easily as they do. Without these and many others, we wouldn't be able to predict tornadoes and tsunamis, and certain other catastrophes. I think I don't need to say more.
science is of course better then mathematics.......no doubt........!
we r living , walking , talking , working, this is all the magic of science ....nt only this bt we r all surrounded wid science gadgets only......... it is all interesting if go deep into it....... and on comparing wid maths its better becoz its all practical based and very much intersting.......
Please sir, please i beg of you, put some effort into your grammar, it's quite painful to read, it's like a 12 year old girl's texting. I think you should know that we would still be subsistence farmers without any technology and dying before we reached 30 if it weren't for math. You need math to experiment with science and develop scientific theories. We would know nothing about science if we did not understand math, sure science is more interesting but it wouldn't exist if we could not use math to discover science.
not true you have it mixed science could not exist with out math. life sci. and bio (i havent had it yet but i think they are close to the same) don't really count since it's like whatching nature and saying what it does so yeah most science involes math like all of phisics is math divide this multiply that blah blah blah
i SAID I HADN'T TAKEN IT YET JEEZ no but thank you now i can cry a little harder knowing i will NEVER escape the constant stalk of math i wish sci. was more important then math i wish
Mostly everything we do in this world uses Math, including biology (Biology has many disciplines). Don't forget that Math isn't just equations and square roots and many complicated calculations that no one ever understands. The simple act of counting is Math. You, yourself, live your life constantly making mathematic calculations. You don't need necessarily science to live your life, but you do need math.
But regardless from that, Math in itself is a form of science (a body of knowledge), and perhaps the oldest in existence.
That's how kids are going these days... kinda lame in my honest opinion... I can understand typing like that in a cell phone message, but in posts on forums and debates, I really can't. There's no excuse for not loosing one more minute to make things clearer. But kids want 1337 stuff and they think it's c00l. Then they wander why people ignore them... or something similar...
I am sorry ,my dear sir, that my fellow peers do not like to waste their time on grammer outside of school on the computer but you must remember ,sir, that if you don't understand what was said then the best thing to do is to not try to read it. Also the word lame was created by my generation so that people that understand it may use it. One last thing what are you doing texting on a jitter bug phone pay attetion so that you don't drop it in your porage ok
I totally agree with you. Scientific equations are generally mathematical equations. We wouldn't have computers if it weren’t for math since their computations operate off of binary code, a series of ones and zeros. A measurement of any sort is based in math. I love both math and science, but math can exist on its own and science depends on math for the most part.
If a rocket at rest expels... something cubic (what's that?) metres of gas at... something kilometres (how far is that?) per hour (how long is that?), using Newton's... Newton's... law that comes after the other laws, determine the acceleration applied to the rocket.
Use the formula (the what?) F... is somehow related to m and a.
of course, math! just imagine how sciences (all the sciences!) could be developed without mathematics! everything is connected with math, sometimes we even do not notice it, and it is another proof of the fact that mathematics is already a part of our life, our simple life, so should we consider sciences?! ;)
I think all the arguments are based on how good we are at a particular subject, those who are against math, did not love math since school and so on... but if we think about it in general, math is always the best!!!
The term science can have a wide meaning. Mathematic is a science that studies numbers and the relashionship betweem them, and the relashionship that numbers have with everything in existence.
If you have math you have science, conversely any scientific study will most likely need math. So, math is neither more nor less important, but rather implied.
