Should Black people be allowed to say 'Nigger'?
Do you think black people should say the word 'nigger' if a white person says it to a black person it's offensive, wheareas if a black person said it to another fellow black person it is ok and cool, representing respect?
Is this gross double standards? I know this is a hot topic, don't flame, don't say 'this is racist' as it is not.

Actually it was originally used as a descriptive word in the uk from the French word Niger meaning black, you used to get Nigger Black shoe Polish and my Grandad used to use it in a totally non offensive way, I remember being on the bus and we saw a bunch of black guys working away and he said "look isn't that nice someone's given those niggers a job", for years if someone had a black dog it was called Nigger, to him and his generation it was just another word. I know in the america it was just used differently and it has been used insultingly now it is offensive. Its like the word Cunt it was originally just a word to describe women's bits but has been used insultingly for so long its now become so insulting its become the word you should never utter. I personally don't have a problem with Blacks calling each other Nigger after all its only a word but their are still lots of people who get insulted by words so we all have to be careful what we say to each other. Both of us are right. You stated the best moral side of the argument which says that in the end we are all one human race and we cant reject or deny or permit anything based off of someones race. I just took the normal moral side that said that you have the right to say whatever you want as long as you dont intend on offending. So we basically were right. So I will say You were right also Side: Yes

I think the word itself is fine. If some friends use that as a term of endearment (lol) then they should be able to without being called racist. Black people call white people "Crackers." What's the difference? As long as people know when to not say that word. And who to not say it around. I'm cool with it Side: Yes

Nobody said a white person couldn't say it. It's not against the law to say the word. It's just degrading to say it to them. If they wanna say it and society doesn't care then whats the problem? I don't see why people besides black people would want to even use the word. Unless your like a teacher or something then you probrably won't ever need to say it. I just don't see why people act like it's unfair even though the word may never be used in a natural conversation. Side: Yes

I agree with you a bit. If you are black and call a black person nigga... it is still a bit rude. If no one says it it wont cant on and eventually it can go away and no one will say it. If they can say it then it is kind of unfair for whites because they cannot say it but then again its a rude word. Side: No

being called "nigger or nigga" now a days is totally different than back in the cotton pickin days. it will never go away...just like how we refer to women as bitches. some people will always deserve such titles. but like the other fellow was saying, when blacks call each other that...its the same as "dude or bro" Side: Yes
I find it amazing the power people give words if no one was offended by the word it would lose its power but until that time White people need to be careful if they use it insultingly they risk a kicking and if they use it when reffering to their mates they look ridiculous, if black people want to refer to each other as Nigger fine but they have to remember they may be offending their grandparents or parents for whom the word has a totally different connotation. if white people cant say nigger than why should black people. its obviously unfair. if black people don't want to be called nigger than they should at least set a good example. if you see the episode of the boondocks. return of the king. i think black people my find some equal circumstances to how they act or feel. I'm a no because if black people call uses as in white cracker then we call them niggers and that's offensive. But them calling us a cracker as an offensive word for a white person is alright. I think if they are allowed to call us crackers were allowed to call them niggers. I'm 12 Side: No

Cracker refers to the noise a whip makes when you beat a nigger's ass with it. Nigger is a word which implies the racial inferiority of blacks. What sounds more offensive to you, calling someone a whip cracker or calling someone subhuman? I am not calling for the word "nigger" to be censored, I am just pointing out that Nigger is rightfully more offensive as it is a word of oppression and bigotry where as cracker is a comparatively mild response.
