Nope not at all if one wants to learn a foreign language get some Rosetta Stone CD's !

Mandatory? No. Beneficial? Yes, but studies show that people are better-able to learn multiple languages between kindergarten and 5th grade than they are in high school and college.

Its common sense. Why were you able to learn english with no effort at all? Did you need rosetta stone CDs or mutliple classes per week? No. You were just born into a family that spoke it and you picked it up. The younger you are the more easily your brain can take in and process new information. So teaching a second language is far easier when children are young and they are still learning at a rapid pace than in high school where their brains have begun to slow down.

As a high school student, my only complaint is the lack of sufficiently diverse language programs. I was strong-armed into taking Latin due to the Spanish and French classes being full. I believe that mandatory languages are applicable for all grade levels (I erred by specifying to high school only), to both educate students on different cultures, and to prepare them for the workplace.

No they should not. What is more important is getting kids to understand and learn proper English. How many times do you hear someone use the word nothing when they should say anything. That is just one example.

Foreign Language should not be mandatory. If you do not want to learn a new language, you don't need to.
