Should Gay People Stop Fighting for Their Rights?

General acceptance of gays, gay rights, gay marriage, gay adoption...where does it end.  Gays have been fighting for years to have the same rights as all other people.  Do you think the fight should continue or do you think it's a lost cause?

I'm sure I've said this before, but it bares repeating:

Of course gays have been around since the dawn of humans,

but compared to the time from when our society first began putting the rights of gay people in the center of our collective conscious and where we are today, compared to other similar pushes for equal rights,

I think we should be happy to note the relative lack of violence, and the considerable speed at which the process is unfolding toward the logical and ethical conclusion of equal rights for all.

So while in the center of the storm it always seems windy,

cheer up, this hurricane is category 2 at worst.

That said though, it's imperative that everyone, and gay people especially keep representatives liable for moving forward toward equal rights.

Right now it is hard.

While say two gay people being allowed to marry is important, people are far more concerned with whether they'll have a job tomorrow, whether they'll have health insurance, how many troops are dying in Afghanistan, etc.

But things are clearing up, and social issues will again be front and center, I'm guessing before the next presidential elections.

No, they shouldn't stop. I think things are, slowly but surely, changing. It's just that there is still a lot of opposition, but it's wearing down. People dislike things they don't understand, and they assume that different means bad. Oh and of course there is the religious aspect, which is pretty huge...but don't give up! It IS getting better, and I think it will continue to do so.

No. No way in hell.

Thing are changing. Maybe not rapidly, but they're changing for sure. There are many public figures who support gay rights, there are more and more homosexual people every day.

We live in a changing world. We can't deny that. People have radical ideas, and therefore do radical things. People are looking deep inside themselves, discovering who they really are. We can't take that away from anyone.

For gays to stop fighting for their rights would be like asking african americans to go back to using 'colored only' bathrooms. It would be like asking women to stop voting and go back to cleaning dishes whilst the men go out and make money.

It won't stop. Nobody can make it. I support it 100% Gay people would be letting themselves and everyone around them down if they just gave up. It's not that simple. and it's not going to happen.

The same question could have been asked about women prior to 1920 or blacks prior to the 1960's. Gays are not readily accepted by all people, but they are slowly becoming more accepted by our culture. Of course, it will never be a 100% acceptance. Blacks still deal with the KKK and women still deal with chauvinists, for example. There will always be homophobic people- it's a fact of life.

if they don't fight for their rights that would just be giving up and what has that ever done for anyone nothing things cant change but just sitting by. there are a lot of narrow minded ignorant and ill-informed people who need to be exposed to things so that they can learn to except them and try to understand. giving up on the fight for the rights will only make this a harder goal to reach.

Side: No

It is not a lost cause. It is a matter of timing and tactics used.

Although it is now 2015 and the Supreme Court has declared Gay Marriage the law of the land, there are still some States that do not allow Gays to adopt.
