Should Homosexuals Get The Death Penalty?

Homosexuals being put to death is currently a big issue in the southern United States because it is condemned by the Bible in Levitcus. Should Homosexuals get the death penalty because it violates God's word?

Check out this list on wikipedia of violent acts committeed against LGBT people. Many of these occurred in the South, and not so long ago as you may imagine. A few examples:

-November 17, 2010 – 18-year-old Joshua Wilkerson was found dead in a field in Pearland, Texas, after being beaten to death and set on fire by a friend of 5 years, Hermilio Moralez. This was supposedly a retaliation to unwanted sexual advances

-April 2011 – Kevin Pennington, a gay 28-year-old male, was kidnapped and severely beaten in a Kentucky park by two men shouting anti gay epithets. David Jason Jenkins and Anthony Ray Jenkins face possible life sentences for anti gay hate crime

-June 12, 2002 – Philip Walsted, a gay man, was fatally beaten with a baseball bat.

I remember hearing that and I hate to say but that's a BS statement... not from you but from the kids.

Technically Kentucky isn't South.

Philip Walsted, a gay man, was fatally beaten with a baseball bat.

That case is very sketchy. Grant it, the guy was a neo-Nazi, but he was committing robbery. Did he know he was gay? I can remember hearing about this case.

I'm saying that we are not like Iran, where if you are gay you die no matter what.

Although the Bible does appear to condemn it, it has a hard time providing rational justification. More importantly, aside from the Vatican, there is no present Christian theocracy, and almost 5 billion people who do not follow the Bible. The Bible is not a political book. Its not even a good moral guide.

Agreed. Even if the Bible does condemn it, and even if homosexuality is immoral (I do not believe it is), this is not a reasonable basis for deciding whether a supposed moral infraction should receive the death penalty.

Side: The Bible Does Not Condemn It!

Of course not. To kill someone for something that is not their fault is wrong.

The Bible specifies that homosexuals should be stoned. Colorado has recently legalized recreational marijuana and gay marriage.

In the old testament it also claims that polygamy should exist, children can be killed if a child disobeys his parent, and that if you do not hate your family you cannot love God. But, we don't listen to that, do we.

What are you trying to say about the connection between recreational marijuana and gay marriage? Neither gay marriage nor marijuana are mentioned in the bible.

I'm cracking a joke. When a debate is ridiculous, there is a 50-50 chance of my amusing myself by pretending to take it seriously, or by cracking a joke. This is the latter.

The very idea that homosexuals should be stoned to death is ridiculous even by christian standards- must less the standards set in a non-theocratic society.

I've spent countless hours debating the fact that homosexuality, as we know it today, is not forbidden according to the bible.

But since some people are still confused about this, for the sake of arguing we will just say that modern homosexuality is condemned in the bible.

Even with this fact, homosexuals should still not be stoned. The US has separation of church and state according to the first amendment. Thus, one religions ideologies have no right to determine the law of the land.

Now we've resulted to killing people all for who they choose to love. If you actually support this I hope you can look in a mirror and see the disgusting pig that you are.

Are you calling God a disgusting pig?

13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Hold on, hold on. "... look in the mirror and see the disgusting pig YOU are."

"Are you calling God a disgusting pig?"

Are you insinuating that you, my good sir, are God? Hm.. Hmm.
