CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.
To learn more about the CreateDebate scoring system, check out the FAQ.
When you are ready to voice your opinion, use the Add Argument button to create an argument.
If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.
The world is over populated. We need more parking spots/structures. ISIS is doing its part by reducing the world's population AND clearing the way for more parking.
I don't find this funny or intellectually stimulating in the least.
ISIS/ISIL is a joke and a piss-take of what both Islam and Sharia Law stands for.
They are worse than any Muslim terrorist group in history as they have no one enemy, no one cause. They are everyone's friend and everyone's enemy all at once. They do not aim to kill as other terrorists have, no these guys ironically mimic the very people who interrogate terrorists and use their terrorist renditions of torture but they don't do that shit for information, they do it to show Allah's might and won't stop until their dicks are hard enough from their sexually frustrated childhoods.
Well, I guess USAians can't understand the value of things you can't spend shoot or eat but it actually no laughing matter what is happening to ancient monuments.
ISIS is a political movement full of young, bored men who want to spice up their lives by killing and destroying things. They don't deserve to be on the planet or have any influence whatsoever. That 'ancient crap' tells a story about the past and is important in culture and history. The temple at Palmyra, the Arch of Triumph and ancient statues are architectural stories, essentially. They've been around longer than Islam itself, so deserve precedence.
But what are we going to do about all the cars people are going to be buying in the future as the world's population increases? We need parking, damn it!
'Ancient crap' takes up hardly any space in relation to other things. Your house, your family's house(s) and all the shit you own probably takes up just as much space as the sphinx, for example. So that gives ISIS the right to destroy your house by your argument, does it not? And don't tell me that your house is more important than ancient relics because only you and several others think it is important, whereas millions think that the sphinx is important.
There are people living in my house. How many people are living in the Sphinx? Also, ISIS would have to travel to the U.S. to take out my house. And once they get here they would have to deal with my gun collection.
I didn't say anything about living in it, I said the Sphinx is more important to the majority than your house. It's hypothetical, the fact that ISIS were to destroy your house in the first place, I just used your logic to disagree with you. With whatever gun collection you may have, ISIS probably have equally as destructive firepower, not to mention actual bombs.
Ohhh, because ISIS are going to listen to the U.S government, for sure! They would bomb your house regardless of whether the U.S. didn't 'allow' them to.
You are underestimating ISIS's intelligence. They are actually quite well organised in terms of a radical group. They have hacked into databases and released names, addresses, phone numbers and passwords of military personnel, so it wouldn't be hard for them to find some big-mouth like yourself.
Be careful what you say. I'm not supporting ISIS when I say that they could easily find you, which they could. Don't forget as well that many ISIS militants came from the U.S. so they are likely able to comment something on CreateDebate just as cretinous as you.
2. It was figurative. Obviously ISIS aren't going to go on this site, of all things. If you consider 'better things' is blowing up ancient relics you're no worse than ISIS.
Please do provide evidence when making claims like that. How are you not a cretin? Also I find it astonishing at the fact you choose to defend the fact you are not a cretin as opposed to the debate topic that I displayed an argument for.
Your argument is not worth my time. Also, providing evidence is not worth my time. I can tell from your argument that you are probably still in High School. However, I am not surprised.
If my argument isn't worth your time what was the point in making the debate? So you and your anti-historic friends can agree with each other? That's not very good debating etiquette. How does my argument infer my education? Just because it disagrees with you? What are you surprised about? The fact that I clearly gave you an answer to your original debate inquiry but decided to disregard it because you don't agree with it? You seem more like the high school student in this situation...
You argument infers that you haven't finished High School yet because you went for the name calling instead of relying on the strength of your argument. It shows lack of confidence but more importantly, adults would just shrug off my comments and move on. So..., let's find out what you've learned.
I did display an argument but you decided to disregard its validity because it disagrees with what you think. That is a 'high school' move. My confidence is of no matter in this debate regardless of what you think. Shrugging off comments is the least confident thing you can do, as turning the other cheek is essentially cowardice. What have I learnt? To never engage in conversation with you again.
What good it is to you may be nil, but to others possibly more. How is it useless? Do you know how much tourism Egypt gets just because of it? In nearly every shop in every street in Cairo there is some reference to the Sphinx. Besides, in the future we may not even use cars anymore, so your argument is therefore flawed.
No, because it wouldn't be worth it. It would be like selling tickets for a concert that the band aren't going to be playing at. You would have the evidence it was there, but you'd never see it, which is the important part for people.
People don't go to see ancient things like they do fake things at Disneyland. Ancient architecture represents the time they were built, the stories, the history. Imagine if ISIS destroyed something ancient, or fairly ancient, and important in your country like the Washington Monument. They couldn't just 'build a fake one' as it wouldn't have the same authenticity, influence or background.
The Sphinx is a tremendous learning tool, as is ALL of the ancient artifacts. Without them we would not be searching for the answers to: HOW did those ancients DO this when it would be difficult to impossible for us to do it today. What were their secrets that we can not duplicate today? Powers we can't grasp that could help us? Ancient astronauts? Anti-gravity secrets? Without these ancient articles, we wouldn't even know what questions to ask.
